Word from the Mission Field

“The God of Your Darkest Days.”

Everyone wants to talk about God being the “God of light!” Yes, He is… There is and never was, “nothing before him and never will be.” But He is not just the God of the light, He is the God of our darkest days and He does His best work, “when it’s dark.”

Acts 27:9-44 tells the harrowing story of Paul’s shipwreck. He had already warned them that this journey would be “with much hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.” The Bible says, “And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.” Acts 27:20

Have you ever felt that way? We have. You may be battling a sickness, going through a divorce, lost your job, lost your direction, lost a friend or a loved one. Now, instead of “daylight,” there’s darkness. God didn’t create darkness, he created “light” and when the light came in, the darkness fled. Darkness is the “absence of light.” But in our “darkest hours,” that’s when God “does His best work!” If your body was in excellent condition, the Lord would have no reason to “work a miracle.” But He always does “His best work,” in our darkest hours.

When Bobby was run over by our bush hog he was driving (here in Haiti), I thought he may die. The Haitians carefully carried him up two flights of steps to our room upstairs here in our orphanage, where we live. They laid his broken body on the bed. We were far from any medical care that would help him. We had to rush to try to find an emergency flight out of Haiti. All the hospitals that we called would not take him, “unless we took him to Haitian doctor first,” and sent that report to them. But, he was too fragile to move. How could we take him down bumpy roads in dangerous areas, and sit there and wait hours on a doctor to give us a report? It was “total darkness” to me. But, I opened the Bible to Psalms 41:1-3 and laid this on his chest. God told us what to do and opened a door for Bobby to have the best care he could possibly have. Just remember, “God is the God of Your Darkest Days.” Hang in there!
