Word from the Mission Field

“The God of My Mercy”

For many years, David was chased and hounded by King Saul, his “number one enemy.” Although David had done nothing wrong, he was hated by King Saul simply because of jealousy. Twice, while King Saul was hunting David, Saul fell asleep in two different caves and David was there, hiding. His men thought, “Surely, David has him now! He can sneak up and cut Saul’s head off!” The first time, David cut off a piece of Saul’s coat and the second time, David took his water bottle… David had “mercy” upon Saul.

After many years, Saul died in battle and David became King. But David took the wife of his faithful warrior, Uriah, and slept with his wife, Bathsheba. When she got pregnant, David ordered her husband, Uriah, into the heat of the battle and had him put on the front lines, so that he would be killed… he tried to “hide his sin.” But shortly after, the prophet of God came to reveal the sin and let David choose one of three punishments… now, David needed “mercy.”

Why didn’t God “just kill David?” Because David had already “planted a seed of mercy” when he could have killed Saul, and the Lord honored it. “Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.” (Psalm 59:17) Today, “plant mercy” in your garden! You will need it soon! Sherry
