Word from the Mission Field

“The Footmen and the Chariots.”

Years ago, before we moved to Haiti, my mother (who has since passed away) used to give me scriptures all the time. Once, when we were flat broke, with our junk cars breaking down, and our checks bouncing, and no money to carry on, I began to whine. I told my mother how “bad things were,” blah, blah, blah. She quoted me this scripture, “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have worried thee, how canst thou contend with the horses? And if, in the land of peace, wherein thou trusteth, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?” Jeremiah 12:5

God gives us “smaller battles,” so that “when the big one comes,” we can stand against it! We must learn how to “fight the good fight of faith!” We must learn how to slay the “lion and the bear” before Goliath shows up!

Yes, we take some “punches,” but that’s what fighters do. It makes them tough! I’m so glad we began our “ministry” on the street corners of some pretty tough neighborhoods! We loved it, but it was tough. Sometimes, they threatened to burn down our platform or kill us! Sometimes, they slashed our tires! Who would have ever known that we would end up in Haiti! So, hang in there! It will get better!!!
