“Do Your Part, but Don’t Try to Help God Out!”
Bobby always says that “faith and patience work together!” You cannot have one without the other. In Genesis chapter 16, we see Sarah and Abraham doing just that. After God told Abraham he would give Sarah a child, Sarah felt her “time was running out.” (And in the natural, it was because she was way past the childbearing age!) Maybe Sarah should have thanked God and started to make a “baby blanket” or some small token of faith. But instead, Sarah tells Abraham to have a child with her handmaid, Hagar, and Hagar gave birth to Ishmael. However, this was not God’s promised child…
Years later, when Sarah was “very old,” and when Abraham was 100, along came Isaac! God always expects us to do “everything we can do” to show him that our “faith and patience work together,” but God doesn’t need our help to make a miracle happen!
