Kristela’s Story

February 21-24, 2014

A Creole Proverb…

“Timoun ki kriye andedan kay ou ak timoun ki kriye deyò pòt ou se menm bagay la.”
“The child who cries inside your house and the child who cries outside your door are the same.”

Years ago, while we were conducting a remote Mobile Medical Clinic in the mountains of Savaan Pit, we met Kristela’s mother.

Her grandmother and great-grandmother brought this sickly pregnant woman to the clinic.

They all knew Kristela’s mother was dying, but they came to the clinic for a miracle.  We gave her medicine and tried to save her.  We prayed for her, and convinced her to turn from Voodoo.  She accepted Jesus, but the other women did not.

She gave birth to Kristela and died soon afterward.  Twelve days later, Kristela’s father came down from the mountain to bring her to us.  By this time, Kristela’s hair was brittle and red, and her skin was full of sores.  The picture below is several months later.

When Kristela arrived at the Love A Child Orphanage, she had all the signs of severe malnutrition.  Her hair was orange and her skin was in very poor condition.  With the help and love of our orphanage staff, good food and vitamins, her health and life have changed.  She has blossomed into a pleasant young lady.

At the age of five, Kristela was full of spunk and good health.  In school, she proved to be intelligent, active and social.  Although her hair was still a little thin from her history of poor nutrition, it was black.  Her skin was healthy and a beautiful chocolate color.

At the age of ten, she began to realize that she was a “mademoiselle” who loved pretty and frilly things, but some days she would still fight with the boys and climb trees.  Kristela stole all of our hearts with her love and her sweet caring spirit.

At the age of twelve, Kristela came to the Jesus Healing Center for her final exam after being enrolled in our malnutrition program for years.  This program is possible through our partnership with Vitamin Angels, who supply the children’s vitamins that supplement the fortified meals our malnutrition program distributes weekly.

Kristela’s hair is now deep black and thick, her eyes are bright and clear, and when she smiles at Dr. Mardy she reveals pink gums and pretty, white teeth.  Now, it is up to the scales for the last test.

Kristela was a bit nervous because she wanted to be in the weight range for her age.  It was a great day to celebrate because Kristela weighed 78 pounds and looked pretty with good skin color, thick black hair and bright eyes.  We could all tell that she was in excellent health.  When she finished the exam, it was off to school where she scores very well on her national testing and has lots of friends.

It took many years and a lot of nutrition before her hair finally began to turn from red to black.  She truly is a miracle, and with her “spunk” the Lord will make something out of her life.

Love A Child thanks Vitamin Angels for their willingness to partner with us to make these supplements possible for Kristela…

And also for so many malnourished children in Haiti.

We thank Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope for sponsoring the monthly operating costs of the Jesus Healing Center.  It takes all of us working together to change one life at a time.

Please pray about sponsoring a Mobile Medical Clinic for a gift of $1,000, or a gift of any amount will help.  Please call our office at 239-210-6107 to help.

May God bless you,

Sherry
