Baseball Outreach in the Dominican Republic

August 12-23, 2014

There are many ways to win children and adults to the Lord. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

Recently, Carlos, along with Jesse Ostrander and his team of fathers and sons from Sports Missions International hosted some baseball games for many poor children living in the Dominican Republic. Before the team went to the mission field, they worked to pack sacks of rice and beans to share. They shared the love of Christ through sports and food.

This outreach not only touched the poor, but imagine the impact it had on our youth! They played baseball with the Dominican children and distributed baseball gear, food and shoes in some of the poorest areas.

Jesse Ostrander and Carlos did a fantastic job organizing this special program. Thank you for helping to change lives.

There were a total of 36 on this team with 17 being children. We even had some volunteers that were from the Dominican Republic. Each child had their mom or dad with him, and in some cases both parents were able to take part in the outreach.

They played a total of six games throughout the week, with the Dominicans winning four of the six games.

After each game the team went to the sugarcane camps to distribute donated food from Feed My Starving Children, and Bibles that were donated by World Vision.

All of these players did a great job sharing their time and love with the poor families here.

Jesse and his mother Evie (pictured below) also taught the Word of God.

This was a great week to have our kids from the States come to the Dominican Republic and minister to the many poor Haitians in the sugarcane camps (also known as a batey) and have a great time doing it!

These young boys did a fantastic job when they joined this outreach on the baseball field and they always showed love and served the poor with hearts of compassion.

This team made a huge impact on the Dominican Republic players because many have never seen a group of American kids serve with such love.  The American players were also overwhelmed by not only what they saw in the less fortunate areas of the Dominican Republic, but also by the love that was shown by these poor children. As Bobby always says, “Love is something you do.”

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 – And through His mercy, He provides the platform from which we do this— baseball.

Thank you all for your support and prayers.

May God bless you,

Sherry
