A Light Shines for Jesus in Peyi Pouri

August 24 -31, 2015

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:14 & 16

Peyi Pouri lies on top of a remote mountain in Haiti, in what we call the “regions beyond.” Hundreds of people live in this poor village and they have suffered for many years with little food, no medical care, no school and only the tattered remains of a stick church.

The poor gather under a “stick church” with a ripped tarp as the roof to hear the Word of God.

In February of this year, we came to Peyi Pouri to bring wonderful news to the people of this village. The Lord was going to provide a new church for them! Everyone was so excited! We serve a “can do” God!

This is such a remote area that most trucks cannot make the trip up to Peyi Pouri because of the narrow “s-curve” roads.

Not only is the area extremely rugged to travel, but it can also be dangerous because of local bandits. When we bring food to this village we must stop four hours of walking distance below the mountain. Then, “stealth donkeys” are used to get the food to the poor in the middle of the night so that they won’t be robbed.

They have many people to feed in this village, including hundreds of children.

Many of these children would go without a hot meal for weeks if not for our Feeding Program.

It was through the sponsorship of David George and his friends that the new church, which would also be used as a school, was built in Peyi Pouri. They also built a 40-foot cross to be placed on top of the mountain for everyone to see, because this village is located in the middle of Voodoo country! Thank you David George and all of your partners for sponsoring this project!

In March, David George, Pastor Souffrance from Peyi Pouri, and Pastor Dale Cornell from Liberty Christian Center in Bakersfield, California, who often works with David George, were in the mountains of Peyi Pouri “eyeing the promised land.” They were getting ready to build another church “IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND BEYOND!”

In May construction was ready to begin, but first we needed to get all the building material to the top of the mountain. As Pastor Claude started to unload the truck that could travel no further…a crowd of 200 lined up to gather things to carry.

These items included: heavy pieces of tin, metal studs for the roof, rebar, and sacks of cement. They climbed about four hours “straight up” to reach the site of our new church. Thank you David George and your friends for sponsoring this miracle church “in the regions beyond!”

Again, the “stealth donkeys” were put to work as Bobby loaded the cargo for the trip up the mountain.

This is what it takes to build a church in the remote mountains of Haiti. God bless these precious people of Peyi Pouri for wanting to bring the Light of the Lord into their lives.

By mid-June construction of the church was moving quickly.

We were only weeks away from the dedication, and the people were getting very excited.

Our team that included Bobby, David George, our driver Philemon, and our Haitian daughter Julanne traveled to Peyi Pouri to see the new church project, which was sponsored by David George. They were joined by Pastor Claude, who knew that the roads were impassable as his motorcycle had slipped and fell on him. He thought he sustained some broken ribs, but he is okay. This new church is a miracle church. With men, these things are impossible, but with God “ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!”

The dedication ceremony was held on June 28th for the Peyi Pouri church on top of the mountain! What a divine answer to all the prayers for the Christians in Peyi Pouri. Apostle Paul said, “I must go into the regions beyond.”

People sang, danced and praised God during the Peyi Pouri Church Dedication and afterward there was food for everyone.

We dedicated the new church in the middle of Voodoo country! We also fed hundreds of people who came for the new church dedication.

A special thanks to David George and his partners, and also to Pastor Dale Cornell and the Liberty Christian Center for sponsoring this “impossible project” for the poor!

The next phase of this project was to erect the huge solar-lighted cross! You would be able to see the cross down here in Fond Parisian! Let the “Light of Jesus” shine in the middle of Voodoo country!!

Bobby, David George and several of our Haitian workers went up to Peyi Pouri to place the large 40-foot cross up on the edge of the mountain. God bless Philemon and our Haitian staff who always manage to get things done.

The Haitians quickly put up the 40-foot, 800-pound cross. But the next day they had to cut and weld the cross so they dropped the cross back to the ground in order to finish painting it too.

The tall iron and concrete cross is so heavy that it took many men to erect it, and it had already fallen once.

They were raising up the cross and had it halfway up and then it fell again! No one was hurt.

They needed to do some more welding…

And then they tried again.

We are thankful to Pastor Claude, Pastor Souffrance, Philemon, Klepson and many more Haitians for all of their help.

On their third try, the cross went up, and stayed up! What a testimony this was for the poorest of the poor, who served God under the old torn tent on top of this high mountain. Now, everyone will know that they are here, and that they serve a “God who cares!”

They finished this project by installing big solar lights up and down the cross!! This was very dangerous work.  This cross is now set on top of a high mountain where Fond Parisien and many other cities can see the cross light up at night!

All the Haitians are so excited! What a witness for Christ! Shine on for Jesus in the middle of Voodoo country everywhere!!

Haitians from all over the country have been coming to sing, pray and praise God by the cross way up on the mountain of Peyi Pouri. You can see the cross from our Love A Child Orphanage, which is many miles away. Many villages can also see the cross in the distance. The hearts of the people are stirred. Thank you David George and your partners for the shining cross on the mountaintop. Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for our sins.

Many souls will come to Jesus!

God bless you.
