Jesus Healing Center Second Quarter Report for 2015

August 1-August 15, 2015

We are so thankful for the work of our Medical Administrator, Barbara MacMannis, at the Jesus Healing Center. She is at the clinic for long hours helping to heal the poorest of the poor. Recently, she did a report and I wanted to share it with you. Below is a report about the Jesus Healing Center from Barbara MacMannis.

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an outcast, saying, this is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. — Jeremiah 30:17

The Jesus Healing Center, through our partnership with Joyce Meyer Ministries–Hand of Hope, is dedicated to helping our patients achieve optimal health as soon as they walk through our doors. We may not be able to fully care for all illnesses, but our staff is knowledgeable in regards to area resources and we strive to be willing advocates for every one of our patients. We are dedicated to service in the community, but first dedicated to having the character of Jesus in all we do. The staff not only wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus, but the heart and mind of Him as well.

Each morning, one of our staff members prays with the patients as we begin the day.

Jesus has asked us to “Take care of His sheep,” those who are helpless, those who are sick, and those who are poor in spirit.

What I have come to realize is that there is a more serious need for patient advocacy here in Haiti than I could ever imagine. It is very difficult to navigate the medical system. Many times the institutions, which are overwhelmed, are not willing to take the time to help a patient carry out the goal of returning to better health.

“I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill.” Psalm 3:4

Our Jesus Healing Center, thanks to Joyce Meyer Ministries–Hand of Hope is not only responsible for seeing to the immediate needs of the surrounding community, but for seeing serious medical issues through to what we hope is a successful outcome.

“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.” Psalm 40:1

Baby Garlens

Little Baby Garlens came to us with a serious heart condition in February 2015. The mother had been everywhere looking for help. We wanted the paper chase she had been experiencing to stop with us. We could do very little medically for Baby Garlens, who had a total transposition of his Cardiac Vessels (major vessels to and from the heart were all backwards), but we did find an organization, which would help to put his mother in touch with a surgical team.

Garlenia, Baby Garlens and Barbara MacMannis have a happy reunion.

For many weeks the staff and I prayed for this baby. The result is Baby Garlens is now an alert and active six-month-old. His mother came back after the surgery to thank us for her beautiful baby boy’s health. Before they left, I spoke with her of all the things we did to prepare the baby for the possible trip to the Dominican Republic for surgery. His surgery was very dangerous, and I told her we want to put it in God’s hands, now. So when she saw me after the surgery, she told me she was thanking Jesus for His faithfulness to her prayers. In all things we glorify the Lord!

Nelson

When I first met Nelson I was so surprised at his physical appearance. He looked like a linebacker on a football team, but with one hitch – he was on crutches and had been on crutches for almost two years. His foot was swollen, deformed, and frozen in a 120-degree angle. Nelson had been in a terrible motorcycle accident and broken his leg in three places. Nelson’s father was a Voodoo Priest who was introduced to Jesus through the love and guidance of Bobby and Sherry Burnette, founders of Love A Child, and the urgings of the Holy Spirit. Nelson’s father, Joel, has since gone to be with Jesus, but Bobby and Sherry knew how much Nelson’s father loved him, and so they continued to be committed to the family and to look after Nelson.

“Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy.” Psalm 59:17

Nelson-Estime

Nelson was sent to a surgeon in the Port-au-Prince area, and was preparing for the next in a series of surgeries designed to give him back his ability to walk. One huge problem was the end of the surgeries never seemed near. When the clinic heard of a team of Orthopedic Surgeons coming in from Canada, we quickly called to get Nelson’s name on the list. We were so surprised at the news we received. Nelson did not need surgery, and with six months of Physical Therapy, he would be back on his own two feet!

Nelson looks forward to going back to school, getting his degree, and volunteering to coach Christian Little League basketball teams in his village. We thank Joyce Meyer Ministries–Hand of Hope for their dedication to the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of the people of Haiti.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassion never fails.” Lamentations 3:22

Challenges to Face

Jean Robert is a quiet young sixteen-year-old boy who has come from the mountains. He has been an insulin dependent diabetic since he was very young; and although, he had been on insulin for a short time when he was first diagnosed, it has been a very long time since he has had any medication. His mother brings him down from the mountain when he is no longer able to do his chores. Jean Robert can barely stand for more than a few minutes at a time. He is not useful for the work his mother needs to have done, and so she sees what we can do to fix this problem. When a child with this type of debilitating illness presents in this condition, it is heartbreaking. Our faith is challenged by the situations in life.

When there is no answer we can see, no plan we can foresee, our faith shows us the hope we have in Jesus. It is our God who knows all and has a plan for our lives. Joyce Meyer Ministries–Hand of Hope’s monthly support for the Jesus Healing Center makes it possible to give Jean Robert his medicine and his family food, which would be his responsibility to provide as a 16-year-old in the mountains. We will be sending him to Port-au-Prince soon to see if he also has Sickle Cell Anemia. There is no cure, and very little for us to do as he continues to decline, but we cannot ignore this poor sick and suffering child. We continue to thank Joyce Meyer Ministries–Hand of Hope for their on-going support to the poorest of the poor in Haiti.

Emergency Care – An Everyday Occurrence

It is the culture of Haiti to wait and see if something will get better, even when it would be obvious to us that the situation is getting worse. Fears keep the Haitians from acting on illnesses, which sometimes lead to grave circumstances.

Small infections become huge problems if they go untreated. This young lady allowed an abscess to get out of hand. Now she is close to being septic, and must go to the hospital with high fever, high pulse, and in need of surgery because the abscess is in a very dangerous area.

Laboratory Helps Doctors Identify Illnesses

We are blessed to have a laboratory that can assist the doctors in a quick and accurate diagnosis. Our lab does routine blood work along with tests for ulcers, communicable disease, and infections. It helps us to be the clinic of choice for illness and patient education, for our patients are treated with dignity. Unlike other clinics, a patient can come to the Jesus Healing Center, be seen by a doctor, have lab work, and be given medications all in one place.

As the staff and I gather each morning for a time of devotion, I am seeing more and more that their mood is changing from their work at the clinic being “just a job” to seeing how they can make a difference in the lives of others through the use of their gifts, talents and their witnessing to the love of Jesus.

I want to instill in them that it is not by chance we are all together working at this great gift of a clinic, but a plan the Lord has made. It is so that others can know what we know of the love of God. We are in a wonderful position to be able to witness to the salvation of Christ Jesus to a people who are hungry for that hope, because we are in partnership with a Christian organization. It is an amazing opportunity, which we cannot pass by. It is our commission, but it must also be the desire of our hearts to share this wonderful message.
