“Help for Wawens”…a Little Boy from Ganthier…

In Haiti, a lack of jobs means a lack of food and a lack of medical care. For the poor farmers in remote areas, the soil is poor, and a lack of rain means crops don’t grow. So each day is a struggle to survive for food, let alone medical care. This is why the Jesus Healing Center exists. It exists for the poor.

One-year-old “Wawens” was born in Ganthier, a village about 45 minutes from us. He was brought to our clinic by his aunt, Rosemaine, due to a very, very serious skin infection. His aunt told us that this skin infection grew worse, and his father, Wilio, and mother had no money to pay a doctor.

One day, his father “took his ax” to cut some trees to make charcoal to sell so that he could buy food. When he came back, he saw little Wawens sitting alone on the ground, crying, in front of the door of their tiny shack. No one was around...his wife had left the baby and ran away!

His father had no idea how to raise children without his wife, so he took the child to his sister. The baby already had this serious skin disease, and it was spreading and very contagious. The baby was miserable, digging and clawing and itching his head and skin until it began to bleed. Still, his father had no money for a doctor.

Someone told the aunt, “Take Wawens to the  Love A Child clinic. They can help him, and they won’t charge anything for the consultation or the medicine!” His father did just that. Our nurses took great care to cut all his hair off, scrub his head with betadine, carefully apply the antibiotics, and showed Aunt Rosemaine how to care for him. He was given medicines to take home. His Aunt and father were so thankful!! They just couldn’t believe that a nice, beautiful clinic like this would take care of their child and give them all the medicines they needed. They left our clinic with a “happy heart!”

When we bless the poor, we are blessing Jesus! Thank you, partners, for praying for our staff and us. Special thanks to our wonderful medical staff and to Joyce Meyer MinistriesHand of Hope for helping us with monthly sponsorship for this wonderful clinic, who puts “Jesus and the poor” first!
