Life in Haiti

What is it like living in the country of Haiti?

Most people have very little food. The poor and children suffer immensely. Hungry children have torn our hearts out.

Very few people have electricity. Where there is electricity, no one has it for 24 hours at a time. I’m just guessing, but probably 90% of the country has no electricity. Here at Love A Child we have to use our own generators for power. Our two generators, which run our medical clinic, Birthing Center, orphanage, etc., burn about 14 gallons of diesel per hour! Most of you may not know this, but Haiti has been in a fuel crisis again for about three weeks. Haiti owes $100,000,000 for its last fuel bill. Haiti has very little gas and diesel. No gas stations are open… Only a very few now and then. Our electrician, who lives in Petionville, found one gas station open last week. He parked in line at 3:00 p.m. and by midnight he was at the gas pumps. They only sold him two gallons of gas! He has not been out here working for days. No fuel… Our diesel tanks, which run all that we have, are almost out of fuel. Please pray!

The result is roadblocks, burning tires across the road, and manifestations (riots). Right now, Haiti is in lockdown. No one can hardly travel due to the roadblocks and riots, and a lot of businesses have closed. A lot of the schools in certain areas have even closed.

Today, I cannot tell you all that I know and how bad it really is here. Sherry and I feel the burden of all of this. Please pray for us, other missionaries, and the Haitian people, especially the children. Haiti is in a political and economic crisis. Pray for the Haitian president and the Haitian leaders. Haiti is a total mess. Jesus is the only answer here! Bobby
