You may remember when we shared the story of little Loubenji. This child of eight months old had been brought to us with severe malnutrition. He had been abandoned by his mother at the age of six months old. His father was 22 years old with no job. This baby had spent two to three days at a time, eating hardly anything! He had never been healthy. When he finally got to eat, it was “bread and sugar water,” which was his daily meal.
The village where he lives is constantly controlled by gangs; people live in fear and stress. This little toddler was able to find the support of his paternal grandmother but shortly after, her business collapsed because she could no longer stock up on goods, because of the gangs. Despite the efforts made by the grandmother, she could not stop the malnutrition that had already begun. Despite the gang activity, her grandmother managed to find the means to bring him to our clinic.
We remember when we first met Loubenji. He was in pain and crying because of the hunger that overwhelmed him and the pain caused by his skin lesions and the appearance of burns on his body. His hair was discolored and brittle. That day, after he had been brought to our Jesus Healing Center, the doctor had immediately recommended transferring him to our Malnutrition Center. Since then, he has been there to undergo strict treatment based on a healthy and balanced therapeutic diet. Today, three weeks later, Loubenji is making great strides. His body is no longer swollen (like his tiny body seen in the photos.) Now, all he has to do is get to his normal weight and grow up so he can be with his grandmother. We’ll keep you updated in an upcoming story on how his health is progressing.
Note: Loubenji is just one of hundreds of children and toddlers that are suffering right now, due to the lack of food, and due to the gangs in Haiti. We are praying every day that the Lord will send “deliverance,” to the poor. Please remember Haiti in your prayers, especially the children. God bless you, Bobby and Sherry
