Word from the Mission Field

“If God be For Us…”

Yes, those five words are guiding us each day… “If God be for us, who can be against us?” Rom. 8:31

Every one of us has trials and circumstances that we cannot control. Today, someone will be fighting a battle to save their child from drugs, to save their job, or to save their house; others will be fighting a battle to save their life or the life of a loved one. All we can say is, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”

Living in Haiti has led us through many dangers in the last 30-plus years. We have been in dangers on the road, dangers in earthquakes, dangers in hurricanes, dangers in the mountains, and dangers in the rising rivers… Now, we are living each day knowing the gangs are getting closer and closer. We believe that God will fight this battle because no one is coming in to help us, not even our own country.

Yet, we cannot leave all these people who count on us… and all the children here in our orphanage that surround us every day; that kiss us and hug us and call us “mom and daddy.” We completely depend on God!

You, too, have battles to fight today, but we are all using the same “Word of God…”

“If God be for us (and He is), who can be against us?” We believe that! We stand on that every day!!! No matter what happens today, God IS FOR YOU, SO WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU?

Love you, Haiti.

The Story of Louima Flerisma

Madamn Louima Flerisma arrived at our Birthing Center. She is 37 years old and is the mother of five children. She is from the “Pine Forest” in Haiti, very far from here. She is a farmer and totally depends on the land to support her and her children. She has no husband to help her. However, she cannot go to the market to sell her small crops now due to the gangs. So she has to put a heavy sack on her head, walking for hours to try to sell her crops.

While pregnant, she traveled about ten miles to find a hospital. She found out that when she was five months, they warned her that her baby was in a bad position and she must find another hospital to give birth. She came to our Birthing Center, which is about 4 hours from where she lives. She ended up coming to our Birthing Center to have her baby.

During the childbirth, she suffered a lot because she had drunk the “ginger tea and alcohol” that makes a baby come quickly but raises the blood pressure. After a lot of suffering, she gave birth to a baby girl weighing 3 kg, and in good health. She is so happy for the care and love she has found at our Birthing Center.

We wish to thank one of our partners, for their donation of these baby “Onesies” that are given to all mothers… They say, “I’m a little blessing!” Every child is a gift from God! God bless all our partners.

Giving Food to Nan Plezi…

It was a joy to travel to a new village, very poor, called “Nan Plezi” (which should mean “the Pleasure”).

I don’t know why they call this village Nan Plezi, because I couldn’t find a single thing that would bring pleasure… no crops, no topsoil, no water, and few trees. But, this food certainly brings “smiles” and hope to the women and children. Women in Haiti do the worst jobs… they work “like men,” and yet, they still have to put food on the table. Many, many times, their “husband” will leave them with several children and go to the Dominican Republic. It is a rough life, but living far away from “civilization” means there are no gangs. They have “peace and quiet,” even though they are hungry.

This food will be the only food they have to feed their children, and they love it! It is full of vitamins and minerals, and it tastes “delicious!!

Thank you, partners, for those who give the “widow’s mite” and those who give more. When my father died, my mother “kept on giving.” She never missed giving her tithe, and she would take out her tithe first and put it in an envelope. She also had envelopes for tithes, alms, and other gifts… God always met her needs. Today, if your gift is large or small, keep on giving with a happy heart because God loves a “cheerful giver.”

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many poor, your little neighbors here in Haiti.

With Love,
Sherry Burnette

Word from the Mission Field

Children are the heart of God…

“Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.” Matthew 18:3-5

We humble ourselves today, Lord, as a child trusting in our heavenly father… We love you, Lord!

Feeding the Children in “Salt Mountain”

The reason they call it “Salt Mountain” is that the soil is good for nothing. To the poor, it is like “salt,” useless for growing crops. Most of the people in this area gather small sticks to sell or make charcoal, or they gather wild leaves and sell them for tea. Someone told us about this area, how the people and children were suffering so much… So, we called our local mountain pastor, Pastor Souffrance, and he organized a feeding program for us. We gave two hundred boxes of food to this area, to “200 mothers” to feed their families. They were so excited! We gave them the Word of God and sang and praised God. And then we fed more than 150 children. What a great blessing!

These people were some of the poorest people we have ever met. In fact, one older man, Mr. Henry Dieufort, his wife just died a few months ago, leaving him with nine children to raise. He has great faith in the Lord. Every day he leaves his home to find some food for his children. He tries to come home each night with “something” in his hands. What a touching story. All his faith is in the Lord, each day.

Thank you, Partners, for helping us share food with these precious people. May God richly, richly bless you, your family, and everything you touch, according to Psalm 41:1-3.

God bless you,
Bobby and Sherry

Noah’s Got Muscles!

Wow! Just look at this little guy! Noah has got muscles!!! I hope this makes a lot of you guys “jealous!” Ha. Well, if you had seen little Noah when we first found him, abandoned in front of our Love A Child gate, you would have never thought this little guy would live!

Kaeli, one of our missionaries, was here at that time. He had been abandoned in some bushes in front of our gate. He had severe malnutrition, had been beaten, and had “bite marks” on him. He was not supposed to live!

But with time and patience, little Noah began to grow and began to accept love… and he began to trust people. He is now going to First Grade and he does well in school. But, look at this little guy! He is built like a wrestler! He has got muscles and confidence! He is happy to pick up those rocks, or garbage, or do any kind of work! Everyone loves Noah, and Noah loves everyone! I wish every one of you could come here and “try to pick him up!” He is as solid as a cement block!

We believe that God has a special plan for him!!! God bless you, partners, and thank you to every one for your prayers for Noah!

LAC TV Program “Children of the Mud” Begins Friday!

Love A Child takes you into the villages that work tirelessly to make the mud cookies that they and other impoverished villagers eat to stave off hunger pains. Your heart will break as you see children born into this mud cookie reality. Fathers spend all their lives harvesting the rock to make these cookies; mothers spend their days soaking, sifting, and shaping them; and now they must raise their children to perform the same dangerous and demanding tasks for the sake of survival. These children have no prospect of attending school, playing, or having a bowl of food for dinner. We can change this cycle of poverty; it starts with one box of food!

We want to invite viewers around the world to tune in on Friday to Daystar Television Network at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and then throughout the week. You can also watch us on DirecTV, DISH Network, Christian Television Network, The Word Network, NRB, and many more local television stations. Check out our full schedule for the best way for you to tune in. You can also watch the program online through our Vimeo and YouTube channels or on our website www.loveachild.com under the “Media” tab.

Love is something you do!

Word from the Mission Field

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God…”

Do you realize that God has given us a commandment to love Him? Why should He have to do that? He is our everything! We can only “exist” by Him! He controls each heartbeat, each breath of air, each step we take. He knows where we will be going today, and what we will be going through.

He has promised to “never, ever leave us!” We owe Him our love. He is our “beginning and our end,” and by Him, all things exist! God wants us to love Him for who He is, not for what He does for us.

“…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” – Matthew 22:37

Everything we need today is contained in this: Just love Him for who He is, and He will bless us with what He has!
