Made it Safe!

Thank you for your prayers. We made it here safe in Punta Cana. PTL! We had a delicious meal at Dionys restaurant. With us are Philimond, Joker, and Emmanuel.

We just called our Haitian daughter Michelene who lives near our mission house. She has a good job managing a “boutik” in a tourist area. She will come over and meet us this evening. Michelene was raised in our children’s home.

Here in the DR you have no fear of being kidnapped, no gangs, electricity, fuel, a lovely country and people. We have peace…

Update on Travels

Passing through Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Three more hours to go to Punta Cana! We have our mission house there.

Tomorrow, we will be taking care of the Lord’s business and looking into a future feeding program for the Haitians. Thousands of Haitians have been fleeing into the Dominican Republic. Keep on praying… We love you.

Peace Beyond all Understanding

As most of you know, the conditions in Haiti right now are as bad or worse as they have ever been. In Bobby and Sherry’s many years living there, they have never seen it this bad. Lawless, violent gangs have crippled the nation and there is no safety. Anywhere. For anyone. This has caused commerce and normal daily living to be suspended. We cannot even get critically needed diesel fuel delivered for our Love A Child Children’s Home, medical clinics, and staff at Love A Child. Yet, this morning, we were talking to some of our Haitian friends in Fond Parisien and Bobby and Sherry, and even though there is constant tension, those that have Jesus in their hearts have a peace that goes beyond all understanding. Your prayers are as important as your financial support and mean so much to Bobby and Sherry, and encourage them to continue being a shining positive example of life with Christ in your heart.

Bobby and Sherry’s positive confident leadership is a calming, reassuring factor for the many people in Haiti who have learned to love Jesus. Thank you for your love, support, and prayers during these trying times. God bless you.

Word from the Mission Field

Neither be thou afraid:

“Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1: 9

“Moses the servant of the Lord is dead now.” Joshua 1: 2

Moses, God’s servant, has died, and now the Lord has raised up Joshua to take the Israelites across Jordan unto the land which the Lord has promised flowing with milk and honey. Joshua had a great battle ahead of him!

You and I in this walk of the Lord have some great battles ahead of us. Neither are we afraid, be strong, and of good courage… We are on the winning side.

Stephano… More Than a Mechanic

Stephano, he is 11 years old and in 5th grade. Stephano’s father abandoned him when he was born. His mother was in prison with mental problems. We believe Stephano is really Dominican or Dominican/Haitian.

The Department of Social affairs brought him to us when he was about three years old. Stephano is very intelligent and loves to work! But he also makes high grades in school. He says he wants to be a mechanic, but he is so brilliant that he will probably change his mind! He is sweet and good-looking! And, he always opens the car door for me! Ahhhh! A gentleman too! So, look out, ladies!! Ha! We all love Stephano.

Haiti News Update

The 17 missionaries are not released yet. The gang is saying on Facebook, they will kill them if they do not receive one million dollars each. Please be in prayer. Our hearts are broken.

We were hoping to have our third container of tents, tarps, and emergency supplies pulled in today from the port. Looks like so far, not today… too much trouble with gangs on the road. Casimi is trying. He came this morning to pick up from us, our 55 gallons of emergency diesel for our semi we had for our generators here. No fuel anywhere. If Casimi can’t get through, then you know it’s bad.

We are wanting to travel by boat next week bringing our last 500 tents, tarps, and very nice emergency supplies to Jeremie and up into the interior. The forgotten ones… Please pray our container can get here to Love A Child. Then we must travel and put it all on the boat. It’s not easy traveling anywhere here these days.

Still, no fuel has arrived for our big generators to run our Love A Child compound. Almost completely out! Out here we run off of generators. We must in the future, become all solar.

We love you….

Word from the Mission Field

“And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise, a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.” Luke 10: 31-32

Let us not be like the priest and the Levite, too holy to help. Let us not be the one who passes by on the side when we see a man wounded and dying. But let us be like the Samaritan, who stops, and then goes the second mile to help. Have a great day.

Haiti News Update

The 17 kidnapped missionaries have not been released yet. I cannot imagine what the missionaries, their families, and Christian Aid Ministries must be facing. Yesterday the Papaya gang on Facebook were saying terrible things about what they will do if they don’t get the $1,000,000 ransom for each.

Tomorrow will make one week since they were kidnapped. Our hearts are torn for the missionaries and their families.

Please pray…

Our third 40-foot “tent” container came into Port last weekend. Nelio had our tent container cleared right away to leave customs. Inside were our last 366 tents, 2,500 tarps, and more earthquake supplies to help the people.

We’ve waited every day for the container to arrive out here at Love A Child. The roads have been blocked [due to] fires and dangerous gangs everywhere. The gangs are in control, no doubt about it.

Most roads have no cars on them, everyone is scared to death. No diesel gas anywhere… The gangs are blocking the big fuel tankers plus kidnapping some of the drivers and taking the fuel trucks… All the fuel trucks are staying put not going anywhere now.

Urgent: Please pray… We are almost completely out of diesel fuel. When our big 200,000 kW generators run out of diesel, we will have no water, and our whole compound will mostly be in the dark.

This has been so difficult on all the Haitian people, especially the children, and all of us missionaries.

I cannot explain the stress and frustration WE ARE ALL UNDER.

JESUS IS OUR PEACE…

What Happened at 2:00 a.m.?

It was 2:00 a.m., and I heard my Haitian phone ringing. They never call unless it is an emergency.

Our security guard said, “Come quickly. A baby has been left in the weeds.”

This has happened to us before. Bobby and I drove down, and there in the bushes was this baby that looked like he was about two. He was cold and crying. His mother had pushed him to the dark side where there was no light. She had left him in a broken-down stroller. I picked him up and he seemed as though he had just had a seizure… he was grinding his teeth.

We took him immediately to our Malnutrition Center Clinic, where our nurses began to examine him. His head was abnormally large, and he was handicapped in some ways. He was the type of baby that a poor mother with other children, would have a hard time caring for him. We have seen this type before.

Today, after the doctor sees him, we will decide what is best for him.

Legally, he has to go to Social Services first, or else we could be accused of kidnapping him. After Social Services, we know of a wonderful Handicap Orphanage, that we sponsor each month and give food to. If they can take him, he will have the best life possible here in Haiti.

This is a country where we constantly hear “the cry of the poor.” Sherry
