One of the most exciting projects that we have ever built is our Birthing Center. Actually, it was Bobby’s idea… We saw so many mothers coming to our Jesus Healing Center to see a doctor for one sickness or another… Many were also expecting and/or delivered their babies outside our gate, in our yard, or in the clinic. This happened so many times. We felt sorry for the mothers, and the Lord laid it upon our hearts to build a Birthing Center.
Mark Ostrander designed the most beautiful Birthing Center. We want to thank Mark and Jesse Ostrander and all of the volunteers who came in to help, especially those from the state of Washington. Thanks to those who gave financially and also to those who donated items that we needed for the Birthing Center!!!
Each morning, we see fathers and family members on the porch in rocking chairs waiting for a baby to come!!! In the background, Christian music is played from our LAC Radio Station! The mothers have a beautiful room, and food is served to them and their family members. If they travel a long distance to get here, then there are rooms in the back for their family members to stay “until mom is able to leave!”
Each mother receives new clothing for her baby, a beautifully framed picture, and a birth certificate. (The birth certificate takes about one week to process and be recorded, and then it is sent back to the Birthing Center and the parents pick it up.) This is a “huge blessing” here in Haiti, to have that birth certificate!!! Special thanks to the first lady of Haiti, Madamn Moise, because she made this possible!
So far, we have had more than 800 babies born since we opened almost one year ago. In fact, this month we will celebrate our first anniversary!!! We thank God first for every little life that has come into the world through this Birthing Center. Mothers no longer have to have their babies on mud dirt floors with a midwife using a “rusty razor blade or dull knife to cut the cord!” Many mothers have died in childbirth because of unclean environments. This Birthing Center is the “very best gift” God could give to the poor! Sherry
