Little Jeff-Kenson is just 24 months old. His mother is Angeline Mertilus and she is 21. Jeff’s father abandoned them after his mother was three months pregnant. The father told her that he could not take care of the baby, as he has no job. He told her, “Do whatever you want” with the baby.
The problem is that Jeff’s mother had no money either and she could not take care of the child. So, Jeff’s grandmother has been trying to take care of him inside a small hut. The hut is cramped, and, in this area, there is no running water. There are four other family members there and when it rains, everyone has to “find a corner inside to stand.” Due to the roof being made of straw, sticks, and dirt, when it rains, it pours! The Haitians say, “You can fool the sun, but you cannot fool the rain!”
Their life is extremely poor and live from “day to day!”
They have an outdoor toilet and get their water from the river. Grandma has a little garden but grows little more than “rocks!” She does get some corn and beans and sells them on the street. Jeff’s mother told us that another hospital had transferred the baby to our Jesus Healing Center.
Jeff had a fever, diarrhea, and was rapidly losing weight. When the doctor first saw him in the crowd, he rushed to Jeff inside quickly because he saw how much weight he had lost. Our doctor at our Jesus Healing Center explained that Jeff could die if we did not transfer him to our Love A Child Malnutrition Clinic.
At first, his mother did not want to leave him, but then, she thought about what would happen if she didn’t. We all prayed with her. She realized that God had sent her a “boat,” for Jeff to escape death. That “boat” was our Love A Child Jesus Healing Center Clinic and the Malnutrition Center. The doctor said Jeff will stay until his desired weight has been reached and then, we will send him home with his special food, and a box of Feed My Starving Children Food for not only Jeff but also for Grandma and Mom and the family.
We are extremely thankful to all our partners who helped with the Jesus Healing Center and our Malnutrition Center Clinic and for those who sponsor our Malnutrition Center Clinic. Thank you also, to Feed My Starving Children and to those who make it possible for that food to come all the way to Haiti, on a 40-foot container!!!
“You,” are saving lives each day, as you continue to feed the hungry.
God bless you,
Sherry
