“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies…” Psalm 23:5 (Part One)
You could never fully understand this scripture unless you have “lived it.” Living here in Haiti has often put our lives at risk, even when trying to do something as easy as “giving food to hungry people.” About a year ago, we decided to put the food we usually distribute into yellow sacks instead of boxes. We did this for several reasons. One of those reasons was that thugs often see the boxes and steal the food from the poor before they can arrive home. But some of the thugs in this area “hate changes.” The main person in the village was a “big thug” who carried a gun. He got so angry because we put the food in sacks that he almost attacked us.
So a month later, we were with our Haitian workers doing the food distribution with the yellow sacks, and all of a sudden, we found ourselves in a churchyard with about 50 guys surrounding us! They were angry that we had changed the way we were distributing the food. They were in a rage! One guy jumped on the front of our truck with a huge rock in his hand and was getting ready to throw it into our windshield. By a miracle, a Haitian Pastor jumped on his back, and took the rock out of his hand, and at the same moment, I hit the gas pedal, and we made it back to Love A Child. But, God had a better plan for our enemies. Be sure to read the devotional tomorrow! God bless you. Sherry
