A Creole Proverb:
“Doctor pa janm trete tet li…”
“A doctor never treats himself…”
You always need someone to help you!
Above, I am helping a little malnourished girl during a remote medical clinic. Many patients that we examine while conducting mobile medical clinics in the mountains are referred to our Jesus Healing Center for additional treatment.
Since the opening of the Jesus Healing Center, it has always been our top priority
to provide the best medical care possible for the Fond Parisien area and beyond.
At first, we provided only general care, but quickly realized that so much more
was needed. In the past, we referred patients needing emergency care, dental, eye,
and OB/GYN care to other facilities. Now we are working to provide specialized
care right here at the Jesus Healing Center.
Emergencies:
Providing emergency care is an increasing need at the Jesus Healing Center.
Our waiting areas are packed daily with crowds requiring emergency treatment.
Below: Carole Stufflebeam, Medical Administrator of the
Jesus Healing Center, greets the waiting crowd. We thank Carole
for doing such an outstanding job at the Jesus Healing Center.
This is an area that has demanded growth because the need is so high.
Every day, more and more patients arrive at the center because
of motorcycle accidents, burns or other issues.
We are so thankful to Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope for sponsoring the
monthly operating expenses of the Jesus Healing Center. We know that
without this generous support, we would not be able to provide such a high level
of care for our patients. Thank you!
Dental Care: This is a huge need throughout Haiti. The vision for the
Jesus Healing Center is to have monthly assistance from volunteer dentists
that come to Haiti to provide dental services for the poor in our surrounding area.
Dr. John Sunnucks and his wife, Julie, come once a year and provide a four day dental
clinic. They are able to relieve much pain from those suffering with horrible toothaches.
In the photo above: Dr. John, Fabian, a Love A Child orphan, and Julie
work to provide relief for this patient. Guess what Fabian wants to be
when she grows up? In the photo below: Dr. John shows the tooth that he
worked diligently to remove. It was difficult to get it out and it took a long
time. This is common in Haiti and it is hard work to remove teeth.
As mentioned earlier, patients arrive at the center needing a variety of care.
They come with the following needs: emergency, dental, eye, and OB/GYN
issues. Oftentimes, we must refer them to a larger facility in Port-au-Prince,
but the patient is unable to afford the expenses associated with going to a
clinic in the city.
If we have a volunteer team coming to provide the specialty care needed,
patients will suffer with the problem for weeks in order to receive the care at
the Jesus Healing Center. Recently, we were blessed to have several
volunteer teams providing these services: dental, eye and OB/GYN care.
Eye Care: We were able to offer a sophisticated eye care clinic, thanks to our partnership with Tim Randolph and Randolph World Ministries. The team brought special portable eye examining equipment and laptops that detected eye issues. This equipment diagnosed patients needing glasses, which the team was able to provide immediately. The prescription eyeglasses were given out as needed. You would not believe all of the thankful people praising the Lord because they could see more clearly.
Thanks to this eye care outreach, the two sisters in the photo below, Mikalange and Jesula
can now see. They are both legally blind. Elina, a staff member, tested the girls, and was
able to fit them with the correct prescription of glasses that same day. They are now
able to see much better than when they arrived. Seeing is a huge blessing for these girls.
OB/GYN Healthcare: Dr. Tim Randolph and his wife, Liz, work closely to bring women’s healthcare to Haiti. Liz has a passion to provide medical care to the poor women in our area. She examines the patients, hears their stories, and provides treatment. Then, she prays with each woman as she leaves the clinic.
The lady Liz is examining (right photograph below) came to the clinic because she thought she was pregnant. After an exam, Liz discovered a malignant tumor and referred her to a hospital providing a higher level of care. The detection of the tumor was made possible using the Ultrasound equipment donated by Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope.
Each patient receives a complete exam. Liz tests the patients for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. Tim helps Liz by providing the necessary lab work. It is a team
effort and a huge help to the Jesus Healing Center. In the future, we hope to
offer these exams and testing full-time at the Jesus Healing Center.
The Jesus Healing Center doctors and staff worked closely with the team volunteers
to learn new and more efficient methods of providing “top notch” healthcare.
The teams help train our Haitian staff and doctors for future advanced
healthcare possibilities at the Jesus Healing Center. These volunteers, partnering
with Love A Child, are clearing the way for a higher level of medical care
at the Jesus Healing Center.
Thank you, Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope, for providing
the monthly operating support of the Jesus Healing Center!
Many men, women and children are able to receive quality medical care
in our area. Only a few short years ago, this type of care was not available.
The Jesus Healing Center is saving lives and providing medical care to thousands.
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. Psalms 41:1-3
God bless you, Sherry
