“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” — Deuteronomy 6:5-7
Love A Child’s ministry fulfills its mission in part through building churches and Christian schools based on the vision God gave Bobby and me more than 40 years ago. In the early days of our mission to Haiti, we traveled all through the “regions beyond” and found few opportunities for children to go to school. We also saw starving children everywhere we traveled.
Then we realized, if we built schools and churches, we could feed the poor and the severely malnourished, and bring a Christian education to many poor children that would never have an opportunity to go to school.
Though we have built many schools and churches in the past, during the last few years we have been able to do so more often. We have started several new building projects throughout Haiti with the help of our partners and sponsors like you. Here are the projects that you all have helped us build.
La Roche
Love A Child has been sponsoring a church and school for many years in the village of Lastik. We took responsibility of this work years ago when Pastor Bernice was ready to close the school due to a lack of funds. This would have meant that all these children in the mountains would never be able to go to school, or have one decent meal each day.
A Step of Faith… We took this school project on, simply by faith. We had to build more desks and enlarge the school. There were so many children coming from the mountains that we had to add additional classrooms. Partners in the States began to sponsor these children so that we could provide the very best Christian education and routine medical care and food for them!
Because Lastik was in a very dangerous area, it was often hit hard with hurricanes and floods that swept through the dry and rocky riverbed. We needed to move the church and school out of harm’s way. The only solution was to move the Love A Child Church and School to another village and rebuild everything quickly, because hurricane season would be there soon.
Pastor Bernice found some land not far from Lastik that was up on a hill and in an area that doesn’t flood. This is where Pastor Bernice felt that the Lord would have us move the Lastik outreach. The village was called La Roche.
We needed a miracle for La Roche. We did not have the money to build a new church and school, and transfer the children and people from Lastik to La Roche. God moved on the hearts of David George and his partners, and soon the foundation was going up!
We at Love A Child and all the people of La Roche, young and old, want to thank David George, his wife Angie and all of his partners who have sacrificed so much to help so many children and their families!
God bless all of our wonderful Love A Child partners who sponsor children in these areas. You are making it possible for poor mountain children to receive a Christian education and food each day!
Madamn Bauje
The school in Madamn Bauje was in terrible condition, and beyond repair. But we didn’t have the money to build a new one.
God moved on the hearts of David George and his partners, and a new school was in the works shortly thereafter.
The new school in Madamn Bauje was completed just in time for the new school year!
David George is a gift to the children of Haiti. He and his partners have sponsored many schools here, and continue to bring light, life and joy to the children of the “poorest of the poor” Haitians. God bless David George and his ministry partner Jay Price for sponsoring this church and school in the village of Madamn Bauje!
Cotin
At one time, there was a poor dark little church and school with a dirt floor and broken school desks. It was horrible…
So with the help of David and Angie George and all of their friends sponsoring this project, we were able to complete the new school and church in Cotin.
The village people, teachers and school children were so excited about their new church and school. This has changed so many lives in this remote village.
Cotin is really changing and we give God all the glory!
The children at our Love A Child Christian School in the village of Cotin have something to smile about. They have a beautiful new school in the middle of a mud hut village! God bless David George and friends for making this possible for the poor Haitian children.
Le Tant
The next project was building a new church and school in the old village of Le Tant. The old church and school was badly damaged during the 2010 earthquake and the flooding waters that rose in the aftermath.
The new church and school was completed in about thirty days!
We wish to thank David George and his partners for sponsoring this badly needed project. The children are the future of Haiti.
Greffin
We traveled many hours into the mountains to the village of Greffin to check on the progress of our brand new Love A Child School in the regions beyond. The old school was badly damaged during the earthquake and hurricanes.
The children were attending school in outdoor classrooms.
We built a huge school in the mountains of Greffin, Haiti that is “in the middle of nowhere.” It takes us six hours by four-wheel drive to get there. We had to “move a mountain” by pick and shovel to start this project. We had a great “Haitian Construction Crew” working on this project and they did an outstanding job. Special thanks to Mark Ostrander who oversees all of our construction work in Haiti.
Thanks to one of our partners Dor’e Aslandes, this is a “miracle made possible!” Now, hundreds of poor children are receiving a Christian education and a hot meal each day. This school will educate about 600 poor children from all around this area.
La Femme
The next project was in the village of La Femme. This was another village high in the mountains of Haiti. This village also had only outside classrooms for a school.
This group of construction guys were locals, and they were experienced with working in the mountains. We want to thank David George and his close friends for sponsoring this awesome project, as well as so many others they have built in Haiti!
Savaan Pit
We then moved on, deeper into the mountains to the village of Savaan Pit, and a very dangerous route to travel. Our Love A Child School was in very bad shape there, and the church was barely standing with some boards and tin nailed holding it together. The next heavy wind would have likely blown it off the mountain and far away.
The good news is that thanks to David George and his partners, we were able to build this big school and rebuild a “brand new” church! God is awesome! Without a Christian education, the children of Haiti would stay in poverty and darkness. Love is something you do.
A team of carpenters volunteering from the Fort Myers, Florida area came to build 250 school desks for children attending schools in many of the rural areas of Haiti. Each school desk seats six children, so these desks are a huge blessing. This past year, we have had so many children come to our schools in the mountains, that they were “standing and writing on the backs of each other!” In many areas, we are the “only Christan school!” God bless this wonderful team!
Peyi Pouri
A recent project has been a church and school in the village of Peyi Pouri, which lies on top of a remote mountain in Haiti, in what we call the “regions beyond.” Hundreds of people live in this poor village and they have suffered for many years with little food, no medical care, no school and only the tattered remains of a stick church.
It was a Herculean task to get all the building materials up the mountain to the site where the new church and school was to be built. To do this we used donkeys, motorbikes and humankind to do the job.
A special thanks to David George and his partners, and also to Pastor Dale Cornell and the Liberty Christian Center for sponsoring this “impossible project” for the poor! It was through this sponsorship of David George and his friends that this new church, which is also being used as a school, was built in Peyi Pouri.
Now the poor children of Peyi Pouri will have the opportunity to go to school. For many children in this village it will be for the first time.
We want to say a very special thank you to David George and his partners, and also to Dor’e Aslandes and Mark Ostrander, who have all made such a big difference in the lives of hundreds of Haitian schoolchildren. Thank you to all our partners and sponsors who have helped these children see a future life here in Haiti.
Bethel
We are standing in front of our oldest school in Bethel, Haiti. This school has deteriorated so badly that we are now tearing it down so that we can build a new one.
There will be 600 children attending our Christian school in the middle of this voodoo village. They have started on the foundation and walls. We believe God for the finances of $95,000… “Faith doesn’t know we don’t have the money.”
We need your help to reach our goal in finishing this new school in Bethel.
Please call 239-210-6107 if you would like to help us with our latest school building project in Bethel. Any gift, large or small, will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of poor children!
God Bless you.
