The Women of Sapaterre – Finding their new businesses.

“She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard… She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night… She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”

— Proverbs 31:16, 18, 24, 25 and 27

We have been visiting the village of Sapaterre, located up in the mountains of Haiti. It is the village where the women and children spend their days making mud cookies to eat and sell. It is also known as the Land of Bon Bon Tè. We love the beautiful people of this village, and many of them have come to know Jesus. But, it started with a box of food…

In February of this year, we dedicated our new church and future school here. From the mud and poverty to a beautiful new big church in the middle of voodoo country! People here are coming to Christ.

We are thrilled to be working in this village. We have wanted to help the women of this area for a long time. The Lord laid it upon our hearts to help these ladies start small businesses. We knew this would not be easy, but we knew we must do something… These ladies have spent their lives “sitting in the mud and making mud cookies to sell and eat,” as their main businesses. We planned to create business opportunities for five women in this village.

Each of these women wanted to “have a business to sell something.” The cost to help a lady start a small business was US$300. This amount would give one lady a chance to start her own business. Then, with the money they make, they will set some aside and buy more products.

We hoped and prayed this would be a success and that we could find five sponsors who would give US$300 each so that these ladies could “get out of the mud” and start a business. If this is a success, then we will take a few more women into the program. Mr. Charles is a trustworthy Christian who will be responsible for seeing that the ladies buy what they are supposed to buy and set aside money to continue their business.

The Five Women of Sapaterre Received Sponsorship

We were so happy to have our first sponsor to support “Jobs for Mothers.” We wish to thank Maryl Jeffries for sponsoring Madamn Almena Phania with a gift of $300. Madamn Almena is now able to buy clothing to sell. She has never had the funds to “start a little business” to support her family. Madamn Almena is now selling clothes, and she LOVES her business!

Recently, some of our partners sponsored ladies with funds to start a small business, and Madamn Adienne Joseph was sponsored by some very gracious donors. Just look at her little business!!! She is so very thankful! Now, she can send her children to school and help make a living for her family!

Barbara Bradley sponsored Madamn Charles for a job! Barbara visited the village with the team from Faith Church. She sponsored Madamn Charles to receive $300 to help her start a small business.

Madamn Charles will use the money to buy food items to sell.

Madamn Charles used the money to buy food items to sell, i.e., fresh produce, beans, cooking oil, flour, etc. What a wonderful thing for her to have this opportunity. She was originally going to sell shoes, but maybe she can add it to her line of products later on.

This is Madamn Suze Ulissa, and she is sponsored by Pat Tebow Williams. Madamn Suze is making bread to sell, and she is doing a great job with her bread business!

Madamn Betina Joseph was another mother that wanted to start her own business. She is now making a living for her and her family!!! We wish to thank Andrea Schoolcraft, Michelle Williams, and Betty McNail, whose combined gifts sponsored this business for this poor mother. Now, look how happy she is! Madamn Betina Joseph wanted to sell cosmetics but then turned to kitchenware and canned goods to sell to the community.

Please pray that those who have the heart to sponsor other poor mothers to start a new business will help them have a better future. You may contact our office in the States at 239-210-6107, and tell them you would like to sponsor a woman in Sapaterre. Let’s make a difference in the lives of these ladies and others in the future! This program may change the whole village!!!
