Marketplace Update

March 15-20, 2014

Sa ou pa konnen pi gran pase ou.”
“What you do not know is bigger than you.”

Haitians want to work. However, there are few jobs and most people do not have the education or skills necessary to earn a wage to live on. Some people do try to sell goods on the streets in order to make a living, but this kind of activity is often dangerous. Others search the dumps for small clumps of charcoal to sell.

After the January 12, 2010 earthquake devastated Haiti, Love A Child built an entire community for thousands of homeless Haitians.  This community quickly became known as Miracle Village, which provided homes for over 500 families.

Now, Love A Child is building a giant Marketplace designed to transform lives by providing an environment in which Haitians can sell food and goods created through our Sustainability Programs.  Here is an artist’s rendering of the Marketplace.

We have broken ground on the Marketplace and are making progress each day.
Here is how the area looks now.

The Haitian crews have dug huge holes for the columns.

Remember, each time we hire one Haitian; he feeds on average ten family members.

Concrete has been poured into the holes to help build a strong foundation.

The large iron gates have also been installed.

We will be erecting the buildings soon.

This Marketplace will be a great place for Haitians to have small businesses that will give them opportunities to provide a better living for their families.  These businesses can include selling chickens, crops, clothing, handmade items, art and much more.  There is no other Marketplace like this throughout Haiti.

We want to thank Pastor Jentezen Franklin and his Kingdom Connection Partners for sponsoring the cost associated with building the Marketplace. With this support, Love A Child will be able to help break the cycle of poverty by putting thousands of Haitians to work. This Marketplace will create thousands of future jobs and “food for life.” We will continue to give you updates on the progress of the Marketplace.  Click here to learn more about our sustainability initiatives.
