A Haitian Creole Proverb:
“Men anpil chay pa lou.”
“Many hands make the load lighter.”
Last week, our friend and partner, Mark Crea the Executive Director/CEO of Feed My Starving Children brought a team of volunteers to work with us for a week.
This was a great time for these volunteers to see in person how important these nutritious packs of food are for many poor Haitians struggling to feed their families.
We traveled up into the mountains to distribute food and feed hundreds of hungry children. We have partnered with Feed My Starving Children to feed hungry Haitians for about 17 years. They donate food to us, and our Love A Child partners help sponsor the transportation of this food from the States all the way to Haiti. This can only happen when we all work together!
Feed My Starving Children has several locations in the United States where volunteers gather and actually help pack the food that is shipped overseas to help feed the poor. Some of the team members have been a part of the packing process, and now they were able to come and see how this food saves lives.
This wonderful organization produces a special meal pack that is designed to nourish poor Haitians that do not have adequate food supplies. This food pack provides all the protein, vitamins, and minerals needed to support a healthy diet for these families.
This past week we worked with Feed My Starving Children throughout Haiti to bring a total of 2,000,700 meals to families in need of nutritious food.
While the team from Feed My Starving Children was in Haiti, they also attended our Malnutrition Clinic to do a hands-on evaluation. They helped with the weighing and measuring of babies, and they helped distribute special formula to all the mothers.
It takes teamwork to feed hungry children and their parents. We are so thankful to our friends at Feed My Starving Children who donate this food to us. We are also thankful to you, our friends and partners, who sponsor the transportation of this food to Haiti. We are now able to feed multitudes of hungry children and still share our food with many other great organizations that also care for Haitian children. We all work together to do this!
We had a week packed with food distributions in spite of the dust and heat, and managed to feed lots of hungry children and families. Mark Crea and his team from Feed My Starving Children saw first-hand how much they help the people of Haiti, and recognized how important food distributions are for these poor people. Feed My Starving Children donates food to us each month, and we share it with many remote mountain villages here. There were huge crowds waiting patiently at these remote villages, and each family left with a box of food, and many little children left with a “belly full of food.”
God bless Feed My Starving Children and all of our partners who helped get this food to these children.
We shared food with mothers and other orphanages.
We shared food with many mountain families.
We feed more than 7,000 school children daily!
We are so thankful for Feed My Starving Children’s valuable commitment. Still, the need here is so alarming that we are constantly making appeals for new partners with a heart-felt desire to help Haiti’s poor. There are over 60 missionary organizations that we share food monthly with for distribution throughout Haiti, and they remind us just how great the need is in this country.
Our packaged food is donated by Feed My Starving Children – an invaluable partner in Love A Child’s Feeding Program. Love A Child then pays to transport the food in 40-ft containers from Feed My Starving Children to the Port of Miami. From there, we pay ocean freight charges to transport the food to Haiti. Once in Haiti, we work with customs officials to have the containers released. Shipping such large containers incurs many charges that include: docking fees, brokerage fees, government fees, and more. For each container of food, Love A Child spends $10,000 in transportation fees. You might say this is a lot of money, but really it’s a small price to pay for 270,000 meals to feed starving children.
Please consider supporting our Family Feeding Program!
Thank you and God bless you for your heart of compassion.
