Helping Haitians Help Themselves with Agriculture

Most of you already know about the sustainable gardening and agriculture teaching and training that we conduct at our Agricultural Training Center (ATC), but do you know that they also take care of the landscaping at Love A Child Village? The main campus of Love A Child Village is where the Children’s Home, Jesus Healing Center, Birthing Center, Malnutrition Center, two of the LAC schools, and many other ministry operations are housed. Wilner (Director of our ATC) and his staff have a beautification project to improve the landscape plantings all around our main campus. You may be thinking, “What does this have to do with the sustainability outreach of “helping Haitians to help themselves?” Well, the ATC staff employs ten people, who each support an average of six people in their households. These guys are able to use their newly acquired skills to have an important job, thereby supporting their extended families, their communities, and their churches. When they buy plants for the beautification project, they help sustain other Haitian businesses. When they train and set up others in the community to grow and sell plants, such as these new flowering plants or vetiver grass, they sustain their neighbors. Haitians helping Haitians.

In these pictures, you see some of the new flowering plants and new cuttings in the shade houses that are being propagated to provide future plants and even help set up another local business. You also see the plants that now line the driveway near the large food depot and warehouse. When the campus looks good, everyone takes pride in their performance, and the ministry work glorifies God. We are very thankful to those who support the sustainability outreaches. It makes a difference, and will continue to do so for generations to come! God bless you.
