The Story of Madamn Eveline

Note: Our Birthing Center is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and we never close! We want to thank all our workers, our midwives, doctors, cleaners, those who prepare the food, and those who pray for the mothers and babies. Because of your faithful work, lives are being saved and mothers can have a clean, safe way to have their baby. Here is a touching story, one of many we see each day.

The Story of Madamn Eveline.

Our Birthing Center is saving lives each day!! At the age of 42, Eveline Myrvil is the mother of seven children. She lives with a man who doesn’t care about the children at all. They live in an area called Thomazeau, where there are many gangs. Therefore, getting to a hospital for medical care, or to have a baby, is out of the question, so they do their best and give birth at home, which is dangerous.

Madamn Eveline is a hard-working woman who sells bread. This is the way she sustains her family. She believes in God and trusts Him to take care of her and her children because her husband will not. She has had two abortions, and when she came to our clinic, she was pregnant with another child. Upset, she was determined to have another abortion. Our nurses and others talked to her and told her abortion was not the right thing and that she should try to keep the baby. Our nurses told her she should come to our Birthing Center and have regular check-ups because of her age and the number of children she has had, and the fact that “having the baby at home” was not safe.

They also gave her a talk about birth control! Birth control in Haiti is not easy for the women to understand, especially poor women with no education. It is customary to have a lot of children because “some might die” and the ones that live will take care of the parents. Also, the men put pressure on their wives because they, themselves, are uneducated and the “number of children” proves that they are a “real man.” The health of women is not important to them, and in Haitian culture, “you should have many children because some will die and the ones that will live, will take care of you in your old age!” All grown Haitian children who have a job are expected to take care of their parents and siblings.

Madamn Eveline was so determined to take care of this baby that she traveled many miles on foot and on motorbike to come to her monthly appointments. This was very important, because if she died, she would leave behind “seven orphan children.” Madamn Eveline gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! You can see the expression of joy on her face! God must have a “special plan” for this baby!!! Thank you, those of you who help sponsor our Birthing Center!!! God bless you! Sherry

Word from the Mission Field

“The Blessings of the Lord.”

I really love the Book of Psalms. David is constantly communing with the Lord, trusting in Him, telling the Lord his problems, but more than that, praising the Lord for everything. Listen to this. “He (the Lord), will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great. The Lord shall increase you more and more, (we all like that part), you and your children, (which means, that the Blessings of God come upon you and your children, are blessed!!!) Ye are blessed of the Lord which made Heaven and earth.” Psalms 115:13-15
God can give your children a job, that they were not qualified for, not had the skills for… He can “put a blessing on your children!”

We all want our children to be blessed. Our son has always been kind, obedient, and has always loved the Lord. He had a college degree but a simple job. He wanted to take some courses in cyber security. Truthfully, Bobby and I thought, “Jonathan would never be good at cyber security internet stuff… he belongs outdoors.” We just never thought he would rise to the position he is in today. Though he had a college degree in business administration, he went back to college and took cyber security (of all things!) When he was just halfway into his first year, someone came and took him out of class for an interview. Our son told them, “that he was just learning.” He knew nothing about this subject yet! But, his instructor said, “Go to the interview.” He did! He has had this job for a couple of years now and they send him around the world. He was “blessed,” because the Lord blessed our children through these scriptures. And, He will do the same for your children! “The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children!” Have a blessed day! Sherry

Zoey, The Darling of the Family

Little Zoey is just a “baby doll!” She is definitely “all girl!” She “hangs out” with the older girls, so she is really into “hair fashions,” dancing, and pretty dresses. She really loves to dance with the “Praise Team” of older girls!

But, Zoey loves to work, too. She will polish doors, clean, dust, etc. She “loves” her Poppy Bobby!! She will be going back to school next week, hopefully.

Zoey is very intelligent and learns quickly! You would have never thought this little girl would have turned out so sweet and smart. She was abandoned on a muddy road by a lady from Letant, people believe. If she had grown up in this area, she would not have had a chance. But, God “put her there,” right in front of our car! It will be great to see what Zoey grows up to be!!! God bless you, Sherry

Men and Boys Dying of Starvation (WARNING: Graphic Photo)

(Warning: Graphic Photo)

For a few months now, the gangs in Haiti have blocked the road going to South Haiti. This is where we are building the special Gabion houses for the families who lost their homes in the earthquake. The people have been desperate for food in many areas of South Haiti. This picture was sent to me yesterday of a man and a young boy who died in prison from starvation in Petit Goave. I woke up this morning reading that 12 more just died of starvation in prison. I’m sure many poor are dying who have not been reported on. Our hearts go out to the families and especially the children in South Haiti.

We have Hubert, our Love A Child representative, checking on rice, beans, and cooking oil prices at a place in South Haiti that sells large quantities. Our goal this coming week is to purchase all the rice, beans, and cooking oil we can for the people and the jails and prison. Anyone who can help with the purchase of food I will be forever thankful. Jesus said, “when we do it unto the least of these little ones, you do it unto me.” Matthew 25:40

In all the years we have lived and worked in Haiti, I have never seen hunger this bad. I’m praying the international community cannot stand by and watch the gangs block the main road to the south where no one can receive food. Gangs are blocking the big fuel terminal so no one can receive fuel. Hospitals are closing due to the lack of fuel and gangs.

Please, someone, send help to stop these gangs from destroying Haiti and its beautiful people.

Word from the Mission Field

“And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger.” Leviticus 23:22

No matter what kind of job we have or no matter how small our income may be, we are commanded by God to “leave something for the poor.” It may be the man sleeping on the street or the mother with pain in her eyes… slip “something” in their hands and God will bless you more.

Update on Jackson

This morning here in Santo Domingo, Jesse Ostrander took little Jackson to two more doctor’s appointments. He had six appointments yesterday, plus two more today. The Dominican doctors take such good care of Jackson. Jesse Ostrander does such a good job lining up all these appointments, and he usually spends all day at the hospital or doctor’s offices. We are very thankful to a very special couple who is standing behind this with their prayers and finances.

Please pray the Lord will provide him with a kidney transplant. Jackson is a trooper! He and Jesse were out all day until 6:30 PM. I asked Jackson, “Are you tired?” He just smiled… Love is something you do!

Medicine for the Soul – The Church Lady!

I can’t think of anything else to call Madamn Eliante Derisaint other than “the church lady!” (She reminds of a church lady from a television program.) She is extremely funny, loud, and always playing jokes. But when it comes to God and prayer, she is “serious!” Every morning at dawn, she leads the morning worship at our Jesus Healing Center. Although she is on our staff as a “cleaning lady,” she really “cleans up on the devil” each morning! Before prayer, she has a large book, “The Book of Remembrance,” which has the names of all our donors that helped build the “Jesus Healing Center.” Everyone prays for those partners who gave, and especially for Joyce Meyer Ministries/Hand of Hope, who sponsors the monthly operating cost of the clinic! After praying for the partners, she leads the patients into the “prayer room,” where we touch God! There’s “no room for the devil” when Madamn Derisaint is here!!

Then, our sweet, humble Pastor Luc Ebiluis distributes the “Joyce Meyer Booklets” to all the patients. (This one is called, “I Am Alone.”) This helps with their loneliness at the worst time in Haiti that they are going through. While waiting for the doctor, the patients have “church service” with Joyce Meyer on the big screen! All these patients have “been through hell” to reach the Jesus Healing Center! They have had to go through gang areas, some of them being robbed on tap-taps, or beaten before they got here! They give a small, small fee to show that the medicine and all they receive has a “value.” (Most Haitians believe that “if it is free,” it must not be any good!) But even if they have “zero,” they still get the same first quality doctor, exams, lab tests, medicines, etc.

After their doctor’s visit, lab tests, and the medicines they get to take home, they must still “take their life in their own hands” to get here! Haiti still has many gangs on the streets, and it is growing every day! We would love for you to “pray for Haiti,” every day, as well as our Jesus Healing Center and all the projects we have… our feeding programs, etc.

God “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think…” (Ephesians 3:20)

God bless you.

Word from the Mission Field

God is bigger than the problem!

“…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:20)

Sometimes, our problems are big. Sometimes, they seem big as a mountain. Sometimes, we can only see the mountain. Let’s look past the mountain. God is bigger than the mountain!! Let’s have mountain moving faith. It doesn’t take much, only about the size of a mustard seed!

Hurricane Update – Fort Myers Office

We just got a report from David, our good facilities manager, who was finally able to make his way through the blocked roads to inspect the office building. Our nice, tropical landscaping took a big hit, with most of our trees losing limbs and palm fronds, but the building itself had no wind damage nor any water damage. PTL! Everything at the Love A Child building is in good order, other than no water, and no internet service. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this time.

Update on Jean Gardy

Jean Gardy is now 24! He was very young when his mother died. So, his father brought him to our “already over-crowded” orphanage. He is small for his age, but he is a “genius” at money.

He is taking accounting and this is his third year… but even before this, he was controlling all the older kids’ money for transportation and school fees. I would give the money to the older children and they would say, “just give it to Jean Gardy!” Little did I know that he was teaching them how to live on “less” and “save more.”

He put his business mind together with Frantzo, another older brother, and Dieuferly (whom you know), and together, these three built a small “snack shop” on our property. Now, it has grown and they are going to finish a large “block building” to hold more customers. In addition, they are going to figure out how to buy large quantities of rice, beans, etc., and sell them to the local “machanns” (lady sellers). These ladies cannot go to where they sell these items in bulk, due to gangs. But if there was a warehouse at Gwo Maché Mirak, the lady sellers could buy there and re-sell. It is all a good plan.

We are so proud of Jean Gardy. He is gentle, sweet, kind, loves soccer, basketball, and is very respectful! He will go far in his life!!

Sherry

P.S. If anyone wants to give an offering to help Jean Gardy and the young men with their sustainability project, please call the office at 239-210-6107, and ask to speak to Rad! God bless you!!
