Three Hungry Little Girls

Dialina, Roodeline, and Ketmalove Jeanty, six, eight, and ten years old, live in very hard conditions in the town of Chantrel in the Nippes region that was decimated during the earthquake last year. For their one meal of the day, they cook a small can of rice to share between them. Love A Child is breaking ground this week on a new house to be built before Christmas, and is providing food to sustain the family for several days to come! Thank you to everyone who’s helping to make this possible. Love is something you do!

Invest in a Life…

Our sweet Dumolia has been accepted at a Medical College in Jamaica. We have been working on the paperwork and all the things she needs for over a year. During the past few years, Dumolia has worked in our Birthing Center, doing ultrasounds on pregnant women here in Haiti. Dumolia is a “devout Christian,” and God’s hand is on her life.

Bobby and I will be leaving Haiti with her Thursday to accompany her to Jamaica for Medical College. We have to leave out from the Dominican Republic (a five-hour drive from Haiti), then land in Providence, Bahamas, and then on to Jamaica. The cost of each round-trip airfare is $1,100.

This is a wonderful opportunity to invest in a life. You may want to sponsor one ticket, or more, or whatever God lays upon your heart. This is a “seed” planted in good soil, the soil of life.

The Haitians say, “Anpil patat fe chay.” It means, “A lot of sweet potatoes make a load!” So, even if you have “just a few sweet potatoes” (dollars), it will help us with these tickets. The widow’s mite is precious; but if you are a businessman and God has richly blessed you, this is worth investing in this life.

You may recall that Dumolia was badly burned when she was about three or four. She has endured so many skin graphs over many years, but she has not gotten discouraged through all her pain. She knew that God had a great plan for her life!

Please call our office with your donation or let them know “the check is in the mail for Dumolia and the airfares.” God bless you and thank you so much.

Bobby and Sherry

Word from the Mission Field

“A Far Country”

“And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.” (Luke 15:13)

The story is told in Luke 15 of a rich nobleman with two sons. The younger son wanted to get his half of the inheritance and go “far away” from his father and his responsibilities and “party!” He wanted to get away from all the things he had been blessed with and go “into a far country.” But, sometimes, when we think we know it all, we know nothing! How could Jonah have thought he could run from God?

How “far” do you go? That quick decision we make without praying, without reading God’s Word, can become disastrous! Think and pray about your decision. Will it take you in an opposite direction from God? Maybe the devil paints a picture that “seems right” but it isn’t.

The good thing is that even if you end up in a “far country,” God is always waiting with His arms wide open when you find your way back! Have a great day.

Jonas… His Life Has Changed Forever!

He wasn’t always smiling… You see, Jonas was beaten, tortured and made to work like a grown man because he was a “restavek slave child!” We found Jonas while doing a “Food Distribution” in the mountains. His mother and father had died, so he was sent to a relative to work… and when I say “work,” I mean “working in the heat of the sun with very little food or water.” He was often beaten and abused mentally as well as physically.

We rescued Jonas and brought him back with us. He had never had a full plate of food, had never eaten three times a day, had never had a shower, slept in a bed, or had a toy! He had “never had a hug!” He was a child captive and made to work like a grown man.

When we brought him down to our “Children’s Home,” the hardest thing was “teaching him to hold a pencil in his hand,” or draw a “zero” or a number on a blackboard. Now, through lots of love and hugs, he smiles all the time! He is still in school with younger children but he can at last “be a child!” We all love Jonas… a lot!!!

THE WISDOM OF COUNSEL

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established… – Proverbs 15:22

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety… – Proverbs 11:14

Last evening, Sherry and I took our board of directors out to dinner and fellowship. We had a wonderful time together! Today we had our Love A Child board of directors meeting at our office in Fort Myers, Florida. Some flew in from different states.

The financials were presented today in detail. We are thankful to the Lord, and we are strong and going forward to bless the
precious children and people of Haiti. Solomon said, “without vision, the people perish…” – Proverbs 29:18

We are flying back into Haiti on Saturday…

Thank you for your love and support. The best is yet to come!!!

The Wise Servant… How to Double Your Money

This morning, we were reading Matthew 25, where Jesus told the story about the man who was traveling to a far country and called his servants to invest his money.

You know the story. To one, he gave one talent, to another five, and to another ten.

The one who had “one talent” did not invest it, but the one who had five and the one who had ten invested the money and doubled it.

We have a partner who wants to give Love A Child a $95,000 “Matching Gift Challenge” for “where most needed,” if we can match it. This is called a “Matching Gift Challenge.” We have already raised half the money, but we are lacking the other half.

You can be a “wise steward” and have your gift to the poor of Haiti “doubled,” as it did in Matthew 25. We have until the cut-off date of September 18th. Your gift will only double if you flag it as a “Matching Challenge Gift.”

So please, whatever gift you want to give, whether it be for monthly giving or “any need,” it will double towards the Matching Gift Challenge, and you will be like the “wise steward” in Matthew 25!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Missionaries Bobby and Sherry Burnette

P.S. Here are the full details on how to donate …

If you can give to the Matching Gift Challenge, call our office at 239-210-6107 and let them know you want to give.

(You must say, “This is for the Matching Gift Challenge!”)

Please mail letters and contributions to:
Love A Child, Inc.
PO Box 60063
Fort Myers, Florida 33906-6063

At the bottom of your check, please put “Matching Gift Challenge,” so your gift doubles.

LAC TV Program “Refuge and Strength” Begins Friday!

Thousands of families lost their homes in last year’s devastating earthquake. Since then, they have had to scrounge together leftover rubble to construct makeshift shelters. These homes provide their children minimal protection from the rain and mud; they have survived this way for months, with no hope in sight. Love A Child is on a mission to rebuild as many permanent homes as possible. We traveled to the Nippes region to celebrate the dedication of many homes, but we aren’t done yet! We need your help to finish what we have started.

We want to invite viewers around the world to tune in on Friday to Daystar Television Network at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and then throughout the week. You can also watch us on DirecTV, DISH Network, Christian Television Network, The Word Network, NRB, and many more local television stations. Check out our full schedule for the best way for you to tune in. You can also watch the program online through our Vimeo and YouTube channels or on our website www.loveachild.com under the “Media” tab.

Together we are changing lives!

Word from the Mission Field

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” (Psalm 23:6)

We will fear no evil, the Lord is with us. We are surrounded by angels! The best is yet to come!!

Tough on the Outside… Tender on the Inside!

Jolina is now 14 years old. She is the cousin of “Daphline.” They are from the mountains of Savaan Roche, in the area of Belle Fontaine. This is a very difficult and extremely dangerous high mountain, difficult to get to the top. This is where we built a Love A Child school and church, and it is also where we had many Mobile Medical Clinics.

Jolina’s father was killed, but we do not know the circumstances. Her mother died after she gave birth. Jolina was taken to another aunt’s hut, who already had nine children. The pastor of their church brought Jolina and her cousin, Daphline, (whose mother also died in childbirth) down to our orphanage. Since both kids would have died from hunger, the local pastor brought them to us and begged us to take them in. We did…

Both girls have different personalities, but Jolina is the “tough-ie!” She scares any boy on the soccer field! Her favorite thing is “running!!” She is strong, loud, and always into something! She is now in the 10th grade and not afraid of anything!!!! She is a Christian that “you wouldn’t want to try to attack!” I think Jolina can handle herself well!!! She works hard, keeps her room clean, and helps the mothers with housework. While some girls here are “timid and shy,” Jolina is not! However, her heart is soft! She wants to be a pediatrician, so that she can help little ones like the ones we have in our Malnutrition Center.

She is “tough” on the outside, but “tender” on the inside!!!

Nakou’s Food Distribution

Nakou is another village that receives our Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) meals… 28,080 meals. The Nakou people are very thankful. Sherry only allows the women to come to pick up their box of food, which lasts the family for about a month. Each box weighs 33 pounds.

I cannot tell you how much the families appreciate their meals. I want to thank Barry and George, our Haitian sons and staff, for delivering the food.

Thank you to our friends who helped make this possible. More areas will be receiving meals today and tomorrow.

Love is something you do!
