Word from the Mission Field

John is a powerful book in the New Testament. Apostle John was the son of Zebedee, the brother of James. No one really knows how he died. Some historians say he was thrown into a pot of boiling oil.

John 13:23 – “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” This was John.

I love the last two verses of the book of John. “This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” (John 21:24-25)

We love you Jesus!!

School Shoes for Jonas

This was a great day for Jonas! Instead of working in a garden in the heat of the day with no food, from sunup to sundown, this sweet lovable little boy will be putting on his school uniform, shoes, backpack, and going to school for the first time in his life! Jonas was a restavek slave child. His parents died leaving no relatives to care for him, so a lady who owned a big field took him in as her slave. He was working in the heat of the day in the gardens, alongside adults, since his parents died.

When we brought him here to our orphanage, he did not even know how to hold a pencil in his hand. He tried to hold it with both hands as one would hold the heavy Haitian garden tool called a “wou!” Now, thanks to generous sponsors, he is eating three meals a day, sleeping in a bed, taking two showers a day, and going to school! He is happy, lovable, and adorable!! He never had a “hug” before in his life! Imagine that! We love you, friends, and partners because you love these children as much as we do!

A Haitian Laughs When He Should Cry

I never understood this Creole Proverb until we moved to Haiti. We had made many trips for years, going back and forth to Haiti, until one day, God told us to move to Haiti. Since then, we have seen the strength and resilience in the Haitian people and their children. Adults who face horrible situations each day, trying to find food for their families… they always try to put on a brave face. But the children especially, who are so sweet, even though they are hungry, will try to find joy in the smallest of things, even though they have never had a toy, a doll, or a truck. Sometimes, when visiting an extremely poor village, we will see little children sitting in front of a mud hut, laughing and giggling only to find out they haven’t eaten yet today.

“A Haitian Laughs When He Should Cry…” We love the children and people of Haiti! We are so honored that God would call us here! – Bobby and Sherry

Communication Services in Haiti Down

We just got another scratchy phone call from Bobby and Sherry explaining that communication services in Haiti are down. They’ve been trying to call out to us and send emails since last night, but cannot get anything out. Please excuse their absence from our website and Facebook during this internet problem. They cannot even make calls within Haiti. They do not know what the problem is, but are praying that it gets solved soon.

They will be back with more “Latest News” about life on the mission field in Haiti as soon as they can. Thank you for understanding this disruption and for all your prayers for their safety and victories against the enemy.  –  Rad Hazelip, Assistant Executive Director

Updates from Haiti

Bass Pro Shops called the office in Fort Myers yesterday saying our tents which we bought from Bass Pro Shops in the state of WA, will be delivered on Friday in Fort Myers. (These tents were bought directly from the manufacturer who makes them for Bass Pro Shops).

On Monday we will have a container ready to load the tents for Haiti. And, next week the container will leave for Haiti! Soon families who lost everything in the earthquake will have a shelter while they try to rebuild. Thank you, we paid for 2,066 tents…

Plus, we thank the many of you who bought tents through Amazon and had them delivered to our Fort Myers office. All those tents were delivered here in our container last Friday.

Please pray: The gangs are controlling the port areas where the big fuel tankers come in. They are not letting anyone pick up fuel to deliver to gas stations or anywhere. So far no diesel trucks have been able to come this way to bring us fuel. We are in a critical situation here. Plus, it takes a lot of fuel to deliver fuel to all the areas we travel to. So many people have been asking us for food today.

One man who was so skinny was asking for food for his village. I could see the pain in his eyes. I told him to return tomorrow, and I will try to make it happen.

Thank you for your prayers and support… They are needed now more than ever.

Wrapped Up, Tied Up, and Tangled Up in Jesus

What if God took a day off? Just think what would happen? First of all, everything would fall from the Heavens. Everything would go “out of orbit,” and the galaxy would be no more. We cannot exist a moment or a second without God! He holds everything together, including our lives! WE EXIST because of Him… “For in Him, we live and move and have our being…” Acts 28:1 “For by Him were all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by Him and for Him.” Co. 1:16
Years ago, when Bobby and I started our ministry, we preached mostly in American Black Churches. We loved it! We loved the music, and the way they praised God! They were not trying to show off their new clothes, or their “hair-do’s…” They wanted to praise the Lord! They used to sing a song I will never forget… “I’m wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Jesus!” No matter if the stars should fall from the Heavens, if we are “wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Jesus,” we need never worry!!! Have a great day, and stay “wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up, in Jesus!!!” – Sherry

They Made It!

We are so proud of our Love A Child kids!!! All of them that are in Philo (their last year of school) just got their test results and everyone passed! This is really a major miracle to have seven children pass Philo and all of them from one orphanage. We have always stressed, “putting the Lord first and putting your education next in line.” Children without education and a goal in life can get mixed up with the wrong crowd, and they could easily end up on the street. When you have an orphanage in Haiti, you must prepare to have disappointments and your heart broken, but the rewards of “forgiveness” to the “Prodigal Son” can bring tears to your eyes.

In the photo, left to right…

Kenson is a good-looking young man. He is very, very quiet, but always polite and there when you need him. He will never say “no” or “I’m too busy.” He will be going to mechanic school next. He can get his hands dirty, but oh my, he loves to dress up!!

Davidson… I will call him the “trial of my faith!” I just could not get him or his twin brother out of bed! I had to take some “desperate old-fashioned measures” to get him up, including a bullhorn! Once, I sent him and his brother up to the highest mountain, where they were born, so they could appreciate sleeping in a nice clean bed and having three meals a day! It was a great experience for them! Of all the children, Davidson made the highest grades!! He has a creative ability and wants to be a cinematographer.

Joseph is the brother of Sarah. He and his sister had severe malnutrition when their mother died, and they were brought to us. Joseph has been on the “painting team,” and does a wonderful job. He will study “mechanics” and go to the same school as Kenson.

Lomene was a “restavek slave child” that we rescued. She is honest, sweet, no stress, and a sweetie. She wants to be “chief cook” one day. She has been making eggs for Bobby on the weekend, but she hasn’t passed “eggs” yet! There is always hope!

Jonas is such a special young man. He is sweet, funny, and hardworking!! He is a jokester! He is also a sweet and kind young man. He also wants to be a mechanic!

David… He is the twin brother of Davidson and the more “mature” of the two. He made the second to the highest grade. He is quiet, and both he and his brother have learned the lesson… “When mom is happy, everyone is happy!” (He should make a good husband!)

Kidney has been working in our Love A Child Radio Station for years. He loves “communications.” So, he will be taking on telecommunications (radio, television, and internet) and I am sure he will be good at it!

College in Haiti is very expensive. Not to mention, we must rent an apartment and provide transportation and food. The cost is great, but the rewards are greater! We want to thank all of those who have contributed to our “College Fund!” These Love A Child children will be the next generation to effect change in Haiti!

God bless you and thank you.

Bobby and Sherry

Mobile Clinic Update

Due to political unrest in the country, and the recent earthquake disaster, we have been unable to conduct any Mobile Clinics. We have been “packed and ready to go,” but there were always problems in the way… one of them being the number of gangs in many areas of Haiti. For some time now, Haiti has been a “Level Four,” which means “Do Not Travel!” This has greatly hindered our work because we could not bring in teams as we have before. However, now we are preparing for our next Mobile Clinic and we have several areas that need help and have asked us to come. Even though we may not be able to bring in teams from the States, we can take some of our doctors and nurses from our Jesus Healing Center and leave a smaller crew at the Clinic, and they can work longer hours.

The need is great. People in the mountains cannot afford to go to a Clinic, and they cannot even afford to pay a small amount to travel by “tap-tap” (local transportation). Fuel here is really scarce. It is difficult to find fuel and these public “tap-taps” are hard to find. There are some villages that will not travel to a clinic at all… they prefer to use things they have used before… such as putting dirt, eggshells, and cobwebs on a horrible burn from boiling water! That’s why our Mobile Clinics have to come to them. A lot of work must be done ahead of time. All medicines must be labeled and organized. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding. We will be sharing with you, where and when, the next Mobile Clinic will be. As always, Jesus is the Great Physician! God bless you, Sherry

The Food Crisis in Haiti

Haiti is in the worse food crisis we’ve ever seen. This is due to economics, gangs in the streets, fear, great political instability, and much more… An over 85% unemployment rate, the earthquake, and the list goes on. The children suffer the most. Our hearts are torn out with sadness.

We are thankful to “Feed My Starving Children.” Last month, they gave us 11 containers (each container has 272,160 meals onboard). Mark Crea, the Executive Director/CEO of Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), told me they would be giving us three extra containers per month for the rest of the year. The Haitians call the FMSC meals “ti pa nou,” “just a little for us.” The Haitians absolutely love their ti pa nou. The Haitians even write and sing songs about how they love their ti pa nou!

Here is how it works. FMSC must raise $65,000 per container to purchase all the ingredients. FMSC then donates the container of food to Love A Child. Then it cost us around $10,000 to have the container shipped from Minn. down to Miami, then put on a ship then shipped into Haiti. Then, we must move it through customs, paying all the different costs. Then we must pull the container here to the Love A Child “Kingdom Connection Food Distribution Center” and then distribute it into the many different areas where families are desperately waiting for their meals. We are doing this through all the chaos of these gangs and other obstacles.

We need your prayers for the safety of all the food deliveries to the many different locations.

When you have 14 or 15 containers, sometimes less, coming in per month, costing $10,000 per container, the burden grows heavy.

Faith doesn’t know we don’t have all the money!

We have support for about 35% of the containers which arrive. Thank you for your prayers.

Word from the Mission Field

Leviticus 23:22 – “And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger…”

No matter what kind of job we have or no matter how small our income may be, we are commanded by God to “leave something for the poor.” It may be the man sleeping on the street or the mother with pain in her eyes… slip “something” in their hands and God will bless you more.
