“Help for Wawens”…a Little Boy from Ganthier…

In Haiti, a lack of jobs means a lack of food and a lack of medical care. For the poor farmers in remote areas, the soil is poor, and a lack of rain means crops don’t grow. So each day is a struggle to survive for food, let alone medical care. This is why the Jesus Healing Center exists. It exists for the poor.

One-year-old “Wawens” was born in Ganthier, a village about 45 minutes from us. He was brought to our clinic by his aunt, Rosemaine, due to a very, very serious skin infection. His aunt told us that this skin infection grew worse, and his father, Wilio, and mother had no money to pay a doctor.

One day, his father “took his ax” to cut some trees to make charcoal to sell so that he could buy food. When he came back, he saw little Wawens sitting alone on the ground, crying, in front of the door of their tiny shack. No one was around...his wife had left the baby and ran away!

His father had no idea how to raise children without his wife, so he took the child to his sister. The baby already had this serious skin disease, and it was spreading and very contagious. The baby was miserable, digging and clawing and itching his head and skin until it began to bleed. Still, his father had no money for a doctor.

Someone told the aunt, “Take Wawens to the  Love A Child clinic. They can help him, and they won’t charge anything for the consultation or the medicine!” His father did just that. Our nurses took great care to cut all his hair off, scrub his head with betadine, carefully apply the antibiotics, and showed Aunt Rosemaine how to care for him. He was given medicines to take home. His Aunt and father were so thankful!! They just couldn’t believe that a nice, beautiful clinic like this would take care of their child and give them all the medicines they needed. They left our clinic with a “happy heart!”

When we bless the poor, we are blessing Jesus! Thank you, partners, for praying for our staff and us. Special thanks to our wonderful medical staff and to Joyce Meyer MinistriesHand of Hope for helping us with monthly sponsorship for this wonderful clinic, who puts “Jesus and the poor” first!

How much is wisdom worth?

Over the many years of ministry, starting at the “bottom,” and being involved in many types of ministries, we have grown to know one thing, and this one thing is more “valuable than rubies…” It is called “wisdom.”

Some people try all of their life to build a fortune, but the Bible says, “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” (Proverbs 8:11) When going through a trial, sometimes, we ask the Lord for the wrong thing. There are times when we need to ask the Lord for “wisdom.” Wisdom will tell you where to go, what to do, and when to keep your mouth shut. Wisdom will open a door when it is closed. Wisdom brings “favor” with it.

There is a story in the Bible of a man named Nabal, and his wife’s name was Abigail. It is found in 1st Samuel 25. To make a long story short, when David and his men were hiding from Saul, David and his men came to Nabal to ask for food for their journey. David’s men had helped Nabal’s servants when they were tending sheep and protected them, so David thought Nabal would give him food for his journey. But this man had no “wisdom.” Instead, he cursed David’s men and told them to leave. David’s men went back and told David. And now, David was out to kill this man! However, his beautiful wife, Abigail, had “wisdom.” She secretly loaded up donkeys with bread, food, wine, grapes, and all anyone could desire. She sent all these donkeys laden with food before her, and then approached David on her knees asking forgiveness and letting him know “how foolish her husband was.” It worked. David decided not to kill Nabal and his men. They ate the food and left. Later, the Lord smote Nabal and killed him, and David married Abigail. See what wisdom can do!!

“For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”

“How much is wisdom worth? It is priceless!” Pray for wisdom each day!

Ada… She Loves to Cook!!!

Ada was one of three children “dropped off” at Love A Child by their aunt. She told us they were all from Cap Haitian and that their parents drowned in a boat going to the States. But, of course, we have no proof of this. All we know is that we inherited three sweet children… Bianca, Ada, and Raphael. All three are so smart in school! Each of these children are obedient and respectful and we have never had any problems with them.

Ada loves to cook! She is learning all of the Haitian recipes and making some of her own. She just “adores” working in the kitchen. Ada (also called Jessica) just turned 15 years old. She is still thinking about what she wants to be in life. Ada is shy but funny. All of the kids love her! She is easy-going and quiet, unlike most of the rest. Ha!

I have told you before that the orphanage kids give each other nicknames and that sometimes the nickname doesn’t fit the kid… But, oh well, they don’t care and never get offended. Her nickname is “bef” (cow). They never get upset because each one of them has a nickname, but to me, Ada is just plain “sweet!!!” Yes, we love her! We can’t wait to see what direction her life will take!!

Update of Dieuferly

Thank you for your prayers for Dieuferly! He is doing much better today. He will probably have about five bad days with pain, but pain medicine helps. He is doing “very well!”

His surgery on his bad clubfoot was yesterday. The doctors are doing the worst foot first. As soon as this one heals, they will operate on the other foot.

For years, it has been our dream to find the right surgeon who was an expert in “botched club feet surgeries,” and God gave us His best! After the leading doctors came in, later today, another doctor walked in and lifted his hands, and in English said, “Thank you, Jesus!”

I think He put us in the middle of some “Jesus Doctors!”

We love all our prayer partners’; thank you,
Bobby and Sherry

The Power of Prayer:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. –Matthew 7: 7 – 8

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. -John 14:14

There is power in prayer. One prayer can change everything!!

Dieuferly’s Miracle

Thank you all for your prayers! Ever since Dieuferly was three years old, he has been suffering from bad surgeries that were done on his club feet. They were done by the military during the embargo. Since then, Dieuferly has been in constant pain. We found some doctors in the Dominican Republic but when they saw Dieuferly’s feet, they didn’t want to touch them! They just “shook their heads!”

Finally, through our friends, RL and his wife Vanessa, God led them to Dr. Victor Rosario and his team! It was a great success!! Unbelievable!! We all prayed beside Dieuferly’s bed afterward and thanked the Lord! Prayer works, and Jesus never fails!

We will see Dieuferly tomorrow. He is still asleep now. Everyone said that this was “impossible,” but with God, all things are possible! Thank you for your prayers.

Her Father Was Murdered, Leaving Nine Children Behind

When I first heard Jolina’s story, I was shocked! She came from the mountains of Haiti, like many of the other Love A Child children have. Her father was murdered (shot), and her mother nearly had a nervous breakdown, with nine children to feed. Her mother brought Jolina and her cousin Daphlina, to our orphanage and asked if we could take them in. “Yes, of course,” we thought. That poor woman has enough on her shoulders. So, we brought both babies into our orphanage.

Jolina is now 13. She is very strong, athletically. She is in the 9th grade and has made really high marks in school!! She is “tough on the soccer field” and “nothing to mess with” on the basketball court! But even though she is a “toughie,” she has a very tender heart! Jolina loves children and wants to be a pediatrician!!!

Jolina is “tough on the outside” but “gentle” on the inside! Her nickname is “boutey,” which means bottle! One thing we know, Jolina’s “bottle” is full of love for children! She will make a great “pediatrician,” and most of all, she gives all the credit for her life to the Lord! We love Jolina!
