“Raising Another Family…”

Bobby and I have two children in the States, Jonathan and Julie, and three grandchildren. We would never have thought that we would be “raising another family,” and a “very large family” at that, (85 children!) Haitian children are the same in many ways and different in many ways. One thing is for sure, each one wants a special time with us. Even though we have many schools, large feeding programs, Mobile Medical Clinics, the new Jesus Healing Center, the Birthing Center, and the new Malnutrition Center. The “Children’s Home,” alone, is a big responsibility!

This responsibility includes many things but our main focus is teaching them to serve the Lord and to serve their country. For most of the older children,  their college and universities are in the middle of areas where the gangs are. Sometimes, due to the violence, they cannot come back home on the weekend due to gang violence. It is always “very stressful” for them.

In addition to the 13 children we have going to college, some of the smaller ones have serious medical conditions. It is a “full-time job,” that the Lord has entrusted us with. We never thought, years ago, that we would be “living In Haiti in a two-story orphanage,” but the word of the Lord had come to pass…we are exactly where God wants us. It is one of the biggest joys of our lives, seeing them grow up and go on with their dreams.

It has been a sacrifice, being away from our own children and grandchildren, but, because we have the Lord first, He has abundantly blessed our own family, in the States!

We encourage anyone who feels the calling of God to “go,” to the mission field, to obey God! God will always make a way!
