Update on Jovanie Jean

Update on Jovanie Jean

This is Jovanie Jean. Many of you know her. She attended nursing college in Leogane, Haiti.

After her four years of study, the nursing students were required to take an official nursing exam in order to get her nursing license (which is not easy to get in Haiti). But, they did not give the exam until about five months later… She studied “very hard,” and was excited to take the test. When she took the test, she was confident that she passed… so, in the meantime, she volunteered at the Birthing Center or Jesus Healing Center. We waited and waited for months, to hear about the exam.

She came to see me yesterday, so discouraged. “They lost the exams of eleven students, and hers was one of them!” But, this type of thing happens all the time in Haiti… when kids take their “final exam in school,” they have to wait and often the test results are missing or, they just say “you failed,” with no explanation!

Older students who struggle to go to Philo (similar to 12th grade) have many problems getting their test scores, so this is nothing new in Haiti. Monday, she will need to go to see one of our doctors for advice about what to do. Nothing is easy in Haiti, especially education, Sherry
