Divine Favor…From the Desert to the Palace…

You cannot put a price on the “divine favor of God.” You cannot earn it nor pay for it. It is something that comes through the “grace of God.” This is what happened to King Saul’s grandson, Mephibosheth. He was the son of Jonathan, the son of King Saul. Jonathan had been David’s best friend. Now Saul and Jonathan were dead, and the only relative left of Saul’s heritage was a poor beggar named Mephibosheth. When the war broke out, all of Saul’s servants fled. A nurse was carrying Jonathan’s son and he fell, crippling his legs. He somehow ended up in the desert of Lodebar.

Lodebar was a desert place in Gilead. The word “Lodebar” means “without pasture,” or “the town of nothing.” It was a town of despair, loneliness, depression, a place of “entrapment,” and here is where Mephibosheth lived. His name meant “Son of Shame!” How cruel…

One day, God reminded David of a promise he had made to Jonathan, that he would take care of any of his heirs. So, King David asked if there was any left of the house of Saul. “Yes,” they said, but he is crippled and lives in “Lodebar.” David sent his soldiers to fetch him. I can see the two guards carrying him in, dragging his crippled legs behind him. They left him, and he fell before the “enemy” of his grandfather, King Saul. He thinks King David is about to kill him! But instead of killing him, David said, “You are going to eat at my table, the same as my sons, and you will eat there every day of your life! And I’m going to command the servants of Saul to till the land for you and bring you the “firstfruits!” Mephibosheth, the “Son of Shame,” became the son of the king through divine favor! Divine favor is more valuable than gold! Today, every day, pray for “divine favor!” Someone said, “divine favor is worth a lifetime of labor!” Have a great day! Sherry
