It’s that time of year when all the children are so excited to be heading back to school. In Haiti, not every child gets to go to school, as it is not free, but our Child Sponsorship program is a blessing and changes lives. Some of our Love A Child girls are off to their first day of school at our Love A Child Fond Parisien School.
Most poor children in Haiti never have a chance to get an education because their parents are struggling to find enough food for the family. They cannot afford to send their children to school. These children spend their days helping with chores and searching for food. Going to school is only a dream for these children. One of our outreach programs helps their dream come true. Our Child Sponsorship Program provides a Christian education, a hot, nourishing meal each day, and medical care for each sponsored child. Child Sponsorship brings a child out of the darkness and into the light. It provides hope for a better life.
Unlike the children in the States and other places around the world, the children in the regions beyond are not able to go to school unless they are in our Child Sponsorship Program. Many of the existing schools are nothing more than sticks and tin roofs.
An education can be life-changing, not only for the children in third world countries like Haiti but also for their families. At all 18 Love A Child schools, the focus is on giving each child a sound Christian education, and hope for a brighter future.
We now have 18 school directors and more than 240 teachers and staff. All of our teachers and staff are certified through L’Education Nationale et de la Formation Professionelle Haiti and meet very high standards.
Love A Child’s Child Sponsorship Program makes it possible to feed so many children, 8,500 and growing. Every child in our Love A Child schools receives a hot, nutritious meal every day.
Love A Child works to get sponsors for each child going to school. Haitian school children must wear a uniform because it is the law, so you can always spot one of our children by the bright blue and yellow uniforms worn at all Love A Child Schools.
Over the last two years, Love A Child has been building new schools or expanding some of our existing schools in several villages. This means that more poor children are now able to attend school, and we need sponsors for them. We encourage you to consider sponsoring a child here in Haiti today.
We have been very busy this year doing construction on several of our Love A Child Schools. In Savaan Pit, the old school walls were cracked and broken by the earthquake in 2010, and several hurricanes and storms damaged the school beyond repair. This new school is being built “like Fort Knox!” Just imagine having to haul materials over these mountains for hours to get here. Then, working in the heat of the sun! The U-shaped building is the new school going up. It can house about 600 children! This is the only school in this area, and it is a “Christian School!”
We have also expanded several of our schools in the past year including Miracle Village, Lastik, Madamn Bauje, Bethel and Covant. We are building a brand new school located in the Artibonite department in the village of L’Estère. This Love A Child School is absolutely beautiful. This region is a very poor area, but now they have a “first-class school,” and everyone is so thankful, especially the parents.
The precious children of Haiti are this country’s future. Poverty and starvation affect thousands of children in Haiti. One of the best ways to help the children of Haiti is through education.
