Haiti current updates

Today Mayor Yvrose is still distributing meals all over—into the forgotten areas. Thank you… we were able to ship and go with tons of food for the surrounding areas of Jeremie.

Mayor Yvrose is a strong Christian woman of 69 years old. For the days that Sherry and I were there, I never saw her sleep. One time she laid some cardboard on the ground by the food to lay down. She worked nonstop, always going to distribute the rice, etc.

She had control over anywhere between 30 to 50 security guards at all times. She had to control at least 150 workers, mostly people who did not have jobs. This was a blessing to them. Thank you to our friends for paying for all of this. The mission is being accomplished!

Mayor Yvrose is tough… I will never forget when she had 250 pastors come from the mountains to pick up food for their area.

I told Sherry, some of these guys are lazy. Oh Lord, Mayor Yvrose came right by me with a switch in her hand. She told the pastors, “You are a lazy bunch. If you don’t pick up your rice, etc., and help load the trucks, I’m going to beat every one of you!!”

You have to understand Haiti; it’s one crazy place. Sherry said, “this is my kind of woman!”

Hubert works and lives in the area hardest hit. This is where Jesse Ostrander and our Haitian team worked with Hubert distributing meals all over, Lasile, the epicenter area of the earthquake.

Thank you–we shipped tons of rice, beans, and oil out there.

As of yesterday, we ran out of food…

Good news update tents!!

Today we have a donor family who will overnight $85,000 for 472 tents (with an average cost of $180 per tent)! Plus, as you know, we have another donor family who will match double every tent bought… this alone will mean we have 1,416 tents!! David George will overnight today $9,000 for tents! Our goal was 1,000. We have others giving small amounts, one tent or more. Several are giving more… Every tent counts!!  Today will be the last day for double-matching the tents.

Urgent: Very soon, the rainy season will start in the mountains in the earthquake areas. We are needing tents!!

Please call today to our office and let them know what you can do… 239-210-6107

“A Hook in Their Nose”

So, you think you have an enemy? No one could have possibly had a worse enemy than Bobby and me! Even worse, he called himself a Christian!

When we first inherited this land in Haiti, it was nothing but dry ugly thorn bushes and trees! You could not even put your foot on the land! The land had been barren and forsaken by the Haitian owner for over forty years! The old well had dried up, and now it was a thick forest of long, sharp thorn trees, and wild-growing thorns called “Flying Satan!” (They were mean little devils that shot thorns at you from a distance!) The old well had dried up and I thought it was the ugliest piece of land that I had ever seen!

On top of this, there were Voodoo people on the land who hated us! But we began to work hard, clearing the land, putting in a well, and making the property beautiful! But, as soon as we began to build our beautiful orphanage and school, the previous owner who donated the land became extremely jealous. The more we worked, the more jealous he became! He wrote lies about us in the Haitian newspaper and tried his best to take back the land! He hated us! But we prayed and prayed! And the Lord said, “I will put my hook in (his) nose, and my bridle in (his) lips, and I will turn him back by the way which he came.” (2 Kings 19:28) And God did!

So, in your prayers, tell your enemy what God just said! He’s going to put a “hook in his nose” and turn him back the way he came! God is our defense!!

Short Praise Report!

This afternoon, David George and his friends said they were sending in $9,000 for tents! Another church up in Panama is sending in $7,000 for tents. Pastor Ostrander called today and said that he is sending money for 22 tents from his church, “Mission Church of Palm Bay.” Plus, many people are sending one tent or five tents at a time. Every tent counts! Our goal is 1,000 tents or more… Looks like we have a ways to go yet. The Lord is moving, I feel it! The Lord wants the poor little Haitian families that have lost their homes, everything, to have a tent over their heads while they build back their homes.

PTL! One family offered a double matching grant. For every tent that is bought, they will double it. One tent will grow into three tents!! The average price of a family-size tent is $180. Go to our website and give online at www.loveachild.com or you may call our Fort Myers office at 239-210-6107. Please mail any gifts to Love A Child, 12411 Commerce Lakes Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33913.

Love is something you do…

Update on Miliana

We have several children here at the Love A Child Children’s Home who require a “lot” of care. One has HIV, one has kidney failure, one is crippled, one has sickle cell anemia, one has a really bad reoccurring skin condition, one is mentally handicapped, one, Dieuferly, is having club-feet surgeries, and another, Miliana, who has a rare skin disease called “Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV).” When we found her in a remote area, she was a child who looked as though “no one cared for her.” She also had “malnutrition.”

When we brought her to our orphanage, we realized that she had a horrible skin condition, which grew worse as she got older. On her hands, feet, and legs she has growths that look like “little tree trunks” growing out! We had sent her to the States to a great Dermatologist, but he could do little for her… But, we recently were made aware of a Dermatologist who said he could help her, and he would remove the growths and “they would not grow back!”

We had to renew Miliana’s Passport, and that took a little while because of all the problems here in Haiti. But now, THE EMBASSY HERE IS CLOSED! No one is getting appointments! This is so disheartening, because we also have a young man who needs a cancer operation, and we have a Hospital willing to pay for it, but the Embassy is closed!

I am going to write to our Congressmen to complain about this. I am so heartbroken, and yet so angry that our Embassy is closed even for children who need medical help in the States. But, I believe that now “prayer is the answer!” Please remember Miliana and Djonsly in your prayers! Sherry

“Haiti’s Children”

They are the “little ones” who suffer the most because they are too small and helpless to fend for themselves. They live under pieces of ripped tents due to an earthquake, or in a straw hut made from dried grass. They never complain about anything because they are too hungry and weak. Every day when they wake up, they have one goal… find enough food to make the hunger go away “today.”

They have faced hurricanes, earthquakes, and mudslides now and then, but they face hunger “every day.” There have been times that those from a large family have seen a brother or sister “go away with their mother,” and not come back. They just never realized that a sibling had been sold for food, or even given to another family to work as an indentured slave.

Looking into the eyes of these children leaves a great pain in our hearts. These are the ones that the Lord has called us to feed. We are always looking and seeking “that tiny village” that is forgotten. You and I can be an “answer to their prayers.” Thank you, for helping us feed the children of Haiti. – Bobby and Sherry

Thank you!

Last week and all this week, we’re still giving out rice, cooking oil, beans, and condensed milk.

We have seen unbelievable desperation. The people have desperate needs for a tent to put their families in while they rebuild.

We have a friend, her and her husband will give the money for two tents for every tent bought.

So one tent purchased would be matched by two more tents!!! PTL!

An average tent for a family of 10 costs around $180.

You can order through Amazon or call the office at 239-210-6107 or send your offering in the mail.

Word from the Mission Field

NOTHING TOO HARD FOR GOD!

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27

No matter what we may be up against this week, the Lord is greater! “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

God is so much bigger than our need! God has more miracles than we have needs!

Bianca, A Beautiful Girl With Big Eyes

Her orphanage family of kids call her “Krapo,” which means “frog.” (All our orphan children have nicknames for each other.) They call her “frog” because she has big eyes! And she does!

Bianca is a quiet young girl who loves to study. Here, she is helping fix a treat for one of her sisters, Jovanie. Bianca and three of her siblings came to stay with us because as we were told, her parents had died on a small Haitian boat, en-route to the states. Bianca is beautiful and “girly,” but loves sports too! She loves church and “dressing up!”

She will be in her last year of high school here in Haiti. She had one goal in mind, to be a surgeon! She had been “cutting up and sewing up dolls,” with thread when she was small. Bianca loves to cook!! We love her so very much!! She can be anything she wants to be, because she sets her mind to it! We love her so much!

Celebrating Jovanie!

You would think all this good food is for Sunday dinner at the orphanage… but actually, it is for a party celebration tonight for Jovanie! She has graduated from “Mid-Wives for Haiti” college in Leogane. Before this, she had four years of Nursing College in Leogane but when the class took their tests for their Nursing License, they were all “lost;” everyone’s tests!!

Jovanie was so discouraged because MSPP (the Health Department) would not be giving tests for two more years. I told her, “Don’t waste two years of your life, waiting to take the board exams that they lost! It wasn’t your fault, but go on to ‘Mid-Wives for Haiti’ and get your degree, and then, when they get ready to have the tests again, take them, and get your Nursing License.”

She can work at Love A Child and do her clinical at our Maternity Clinic and then when they give the Nursing Exam, take it, and she will have two degrees. Jovanie was not easy to raise, but her determination and “not afraid of anything” attitude will make her a great nurse!

Tents Desperately Needed

We returned late Thursday afternoon from Jeremie, south Haiti, exhausted and emotionally drained. Mayor Yvrose and her team are still giving out meals all over in their section of the country. They will continue probably for two more weeks at least. Out where Jesse Ostrander and his team were in south Haiti, Hubert and his team are still giving out food. He left this morning for the interior with another big load of rice, beans, and cooking oil. Sherry and I cannot thank everyone who has helped and continues to help. Your hearts have been so full of love.

When Sherry and I left south Haiti on Thursday, seeing the children and their parents who have lost their houses broke our hearts. Everyone, by the hundreds, has been asking for tents to live in. The Lord has put a heavy burden on our hearts to help. I could barely sleep last night thinking about them, especially the children. Please pray…

We have a friend, she and her husband told us they will match two tents with every tent bought! If you purchase one tent, they will match by providing two more tents. So, one tent will end up being three tents!! PTL!

Sherry and I, along with the families of Haiti, are so thankful. Please let the office know in Fort Myers of every tent you will bless a poor family with. Love A Child phone number: 239-210-6107

We are praying!
